  1. What's the worst that can happen?  You get an out?

What's one teensy out in the grand scheme of things?

Even the most accomplished MLB players get out 7/10 times.

I could be starving to death or dying of thirst in a third world country; instead I'm playing one of the greatest games on the face of the Earth with friends and family around me.

Hope I helped.  That's what I think, anyway.  As big as an at-bat may seem, remember that you're lucky to be here enjoying yourself.

  2. Before your up, try to do some breathing. I like to personally do something called a 4 7 8 breath. You breath in for 4 seconds, hold for 7 and blow out for 8.

Also try to smile to yourself. That always helps me.

    Hope you do good tonight!

  3. have your dad or bro pitch to you just before or work on a tee, then when you play just think back on your mechanics you just worked on earlier. It really works.

Baseball swings are all about repetition and consistence, taking some swings before really helps.

  4. i know how u feel

i was freaked out alot at the plate a couple years ago

you just gotta find ur song thats wat i did

find a song with a stedddy beat and play it in ur head it'll get ur mind off makin an out and make everything a fluid motion for you

i know it helped me alot

  5. The answer about, "what's the worst that can happen" is probably the best one. Think of it this way.  If a major leaguer is only successful at the plate (hit) 1/3 of the time his entire career.  He'll be in the hall of fame....which means he will have failed 2/3s of the time.

Not a big deal.  Everybody strikes out.

  6. I played lot's of games before i just go out there and don't think about it!!

  7. Just takes breaths, don't worry about getting out since it happens most of the time and getting hit by the ball happens rarely happens. Don't be afraid just go to the plate and relax.

  8. Well.. just take a deep breath and try your best =]

Good luck at your game tonight!

  9. Just picture the other team in their underware! LOL:) that old stage frieght saying...na just sing dude...I mean I had some problems with my mental game in golf talking to myself making myself think to much and I started singing one day..MAN. I dont think much once I get set up to the golf ball before a swing.  I mean I figure where I want it to go and the right club, but as soon as Im in my stance I start singing in my head:) good luck

  10. Close your eyes and imagine yourself in a relaxing situation. Then vision yourself standing on second base.

  11. Im kinda the same wat. I dont know if its nervousness or what. But you kinda of feel like your chest feels a little weak or something. But i don't know if im nervous or not. Because that happens to me in track and field to right before a run you get a little nervous like before the gun if your going to get a bad start. Well my advice to you is just take some deep breaths. Keep calm. Be patient. Don't think at the plate either. Just kinda go up their saying your going to get a base hit and succeed and tell yourself if you don't succeed you will still be succseful is you fail 7 of your next 10 times.

  12. Sounds too simple, but do what the pros do, advance scouting.

Don't know what level you're playing at, but makes sense from little league to the big show.  Go watch the teams you play against.  You'll see the pitchers you'll be facing.  Learn their moves, release points, how the catchers frame the ball, how the fielders position themselves for different types of hitters.  Watching them without a bat in your hands makes it easier to see their whole game, and you'll be able to walk up to the plate knowing enough to shake those nerves.

We started doing this with my slow pitch softball team.  2 or 3 of us old guys would go out and watch our opponents play each other and enjoy a few beers while we did.  Kept a scorebook, talked about what we saw, had a relaxing night out without wives and girlfriends and kids,

and have been winning championships since.

  13. thats sad, how can u be nervous lmfao. ey im a pitcher n ill luv 2 hav a nervous batter up like u.

  14. Hall of Famer and Batting Champion Wade Boggs said "When you stop feeling the butterflies at the plate, quit..."

Learn to love that nervousness....Imagine yourself sitting at a boring job with boring people whose biggest thrill is when the clock strikes 5:00...wouldn't you much rather be at the plate with the bat in your hand?

The key is to NOT let the nervousness distract you from the game.  Know the situation before you go to the plate.  While on deck count the outs, watch the pitcher to see where he releases the ball...see what kind of "stuff" he has...

As you get to the plate, check where the 3B and 1B are playing (can you "surprise" them with a bunt?)...See which way the outfielders have shifted.  Have a plan to look for a specific pitch to hit to a specific spot.  For Example:  If I'm coming up with 1 out and a man on 2B, I'm looking for something away to line to RF...anything else, I'm letting go until I have two strikes on me.

The more you stay in the game mentally the less time you'll have to worry about failing..
