But now that I'm older and had my own children I've been looking at some websites and I mean it looks to me as though I wouldn't be able to do it. I mean my family and all that well off but we make it and it seems you have to have good credit and all kinds of stuff financially to be considered at least by the questions they ask. I know that health is a big issue and although I am overweight which I have been my entire life really I can't do it. I didn't know I had to be all kinds of things I'm not in order to give someone a child they could never otherwise have. Has anyone ever been a surrogate before and is it really like that, do you have to be a certain way in order to qualify to be a surrogate.

  1. First off, let me say yes, I have been a surrogate mother, twice.  So know that this information is coming from someone who has been there, done that.

I'm not sure where you are looking, but it is not a requirement that a surrogate mother is financially well off.  They often are, as most surrogates are middle class or upper middle class, but there are some that are barely off welfare as well.

I have gone through an agency match as well as an independent match and I have NEVER had a credit check.  I have known surrogate mothers who have recently been through bankruptcy.  It is not uncommon and it is not something that will be held against you.

Intended parents, clinics, and agencies are more interested in your mental state and your healthy pregnancies than your financial situation.

They do want to make sure you are not depending on the money you may receive as compensation.  That is the source of the questions.  So much is uncertain in surrogacy and you may get into it and not get pregnant.  If you need the surrogacy compensation to meet your bills and obligations, then you should not look into surrogacy.  But if you are getting by on your own without additional income, and surrogacy would be a bonus to maybe apply towards debt or a vacation, you are totally fine.

As far as weight, it really depends on how heavy you are.  Most surrogates are "fluffy".  Are we talking 50-100lbs overweight or 150+lbs overweight?  If your weight would make it difficult for you to become and remain pregnant, that would be an issue.  But most clinics will allow surrogates who have curves to carry, though there are a few clinics with strict weight/height proportionate rules.  Don't worry about your weight; you will most likely still qualify.

  2. that seems kinda well S****y, if some one i was close to and couldn't have a baby wanted me to carry for them i would do it no conditions except the med bills, im overweight too and have 2 beautiful kids and #3 is on the way, you might try a private surrogacy
