Abdul Waris has told that he snubbed a host of top European clubs to fulfil his dream of playing in the European tournament after joining Spartak Moscow this summer
Abdul Waris has backed his decision to join Spartak Moscow this summer, admitting that it was a no brainer not to join the Russian Premier League club which secures UEFA Champions League’s berth every other season.
The Ghanaian striker admitted that the lure of the European tournament persuaded him to snub a host of top European clubs to join the Spartachi during the summer transfer window.
If speculations are to be believed, Abdul turned down lucrative offers from Espanyol and Bayer Leverkusen to join the Moscow-based club.
Spartak’s move for Abdul was a no brainer as they succeeded in bringing a quality forward at Luzhniki stadium. Abdul was the Swedish championship’s top-scorer last season with 23 goals in 29 appearances.
Speaking on his transition to the Moscow-based club, Abdul has insisted that he always wanted to play in the Champions League. He thanked his new club for giving him a chance to fulfil his dream and assured them of meeting their
expectations.
The mercurial forward admitted that he rejected proposals from a host of top European clubs across Europe because he wanted to play for a club which can offer him more European football.
“Spartak is a big club, with great prospects. I made my mind after watching them play against Celtic. I liked the team and it seemed that there is a room for development. I hope my dream to play in the Champions League every other
season will come true at my new club.”
“I know that in the Russian league is a very serious competition. But I am not afraid and believe that the strong league will helps me in getting better. This was one of the factors that I chose Spartak. I love their style of
play and hopefully I will score goals.” The Swedish Golden Boot winner was quoted as saying.
The Moscow-based club reportedly paid 2.9 million Euros fee to the Swedish Professional league club, BK Hacken, after signing a three-year contract with the 21-year-old striker.
