Just somewhere like McDonald's. Can I get one now, or do I have to wait until I'm 14 or so?

  1. although you need to be 14 and 9 months,

while you are still 13 you can get a job delivering junk mail

contact your local council and they will be able to help you

it doesnt pay enormous amounts but it was a good first job, you just have to be good on a bike

  2. here in adelaide lots of young people approx 14 work at hungry jacks, KFC etc.

  3. Yep its 14 and nine months till you can get a job.

I applied at McDonald's when i turned 14 and they said I was good but to apply again when i turned 14 and nine months.

I ended up at Safeway anyway.

But hey! KFC illegally employs younger people. I know an 11 year old who works there!

  4. You can work, you'd be better off applying at places like corner stores or family run businesses, as they generally take on younger staff.

I know that some fast food places take on people under 14 and 9 months - that is the minimum age for part-time work. A friend started at one of the chains at 14, you just need to apply to them all, and it would be easier if you had a friend at one who could ask their boss.

    Best of Luck!!

  5. A great website about starting work for the first time and your rights is

    Queensland - http://www.wageline.qld.gov.au/youngwork...

It does state - The general minimum age is 13 years for children starting work, although children from 11 years of age may perform delivery work including for items such as newspapers and advertising leaflets.

....... so generally it is 14 ½ to work, but you can work earlier as long as your have your parent’s permission.

Coles, Woolworths, IGA, K-mart, Target, Big W, The Warehouse.

Any fast food places, McDonalds, KFC etc - they all take on casual staff. - Just walk in and ask !

Smaller takeaway shops, like Pizza, Pasta etc... they are always taking on customer service staff and need kitchen hands....

    - Most of the places above you apply online on their websites, look for a link 'careers' or 'employment'.  A bit lengthy I know.... but you fill in what area you want to work etc, and they will email you jobs coming up, you can pick and choose, if you are then accepted they will call you in for an interview.

    Good Luck with it all.

  6. You are legally allowed to get your first job at 14 and nine months.
