I am 13 years old and I seem to have a knack for linguistics. I am immensly interested in different languages and cultures and I have for the Japanese language and cluture to be extreamly facinating. I do have the book Japanese Step by Step. I was wondering if there are any more 'must have' books or programs that I should get to help me with my Japanese studies. How long do you think it would take for a girl who is 13 and very interested in Japanese take to learn it? I watch the anime Bleach too, so many people say that helps. Does it? I know the basics already. Arigatou gozaimasu!

  1. you may want to ask your teacher to check schools that teach ESL  in your area and you can make friends with japanese kids your age.

i'm sure they'll be happy to make new friends and their moms would be relieved

you can offer to tutor english in exchange for japanese lessons.

you can also ask to meet their moms, most stay at home moms have lots of free time so you can ask her to teach you in exchange for baby sitting or help with schoolwork.

anime is not the best way to learn the language because not all use proper japanese. some slangs are like fads, it may be hip now but in 10 years, no one will understand you.

someone else asked the same question a few minutes before you, i believe she's your age, too.

  2. i think the best thing to do is to hire a tutor or take japanese as a school subject, i took it for one year and it was great
