  1. Firstly, I must point out that I am in Australia and a lot of the sites I have listed will be in the US, but many, like ebay, ikea, target, you will of course have in Ireland, and the other sites just use them for inspiration.

Ok, Wallpaper for one wall would REALLY help, (really), to break up the lilac floor and walls. So then, you would have 2 large features in your room, the bed coverings and the feature wall, if you did wallpaper you'd need to be sure the bed and wallpaper worked together of course,  and then sort out the lampshades, door curtains etc.

The other thing you could do, is paint stipes on the lilac, like this.(wait for the 'after' picture to come up) .. http://www.hgtv.ca/homeheist/Galleries/g...

you could even cheat and just put up tape for your stripes, a bit lazy, but stripes aren't as easy as you'd think, however if you do paint stripes, once you have the masking tape in place, do one coat of clear before painting the colour, this stops the colour you are painting from seeping underneath the masking tape and leaving you with a very crooked edges.

Other options, get a wall mural like these ones, scroll down and have a good look there are some amazing ones in there,

  2. a sofa bed

  3. Buy paint, open paint, throw paint, cover room, no more lilac

  4. Have a look online or in magazines/catalogues for bedding. When you find some you like you can co-ordinate the rest of your bedroom accessories with it. You can go for pinks, blues, darker purples, silver whatever you see that you like. A nice floaty voile on the window instead of heavy curtains, also I know its the wrong time of year but xmas decorations such as sparkly beads, strings and fairy lights can look pretty around a mirror or your headboard. I got some fluffy lilac fairy lights a couple of years ago for my daughters room when she was into lilac.
