I am 13 and want to be a Psychologist

Question

I know i'm only 13 and kids change there career all the time but I really want to be a Psychologist beacause I like helping people that are sad or depressed or have issues and I feel I am good at it. And well I dont know much about this job like how much it pays and how long you have to go to school for it and if you need good grades beacause im a C average student. So it would help me alot if you could help me understand this career better such as the salary how long you have to go to school and if you need good grades.

You have to go to College get at least an Masters Degree preferably a Doctorate. then you have to work with a mentor then get your license to practice as a Therapist and counselor. I've been doing it for 11 years and work with challenged children. Before that I had my degree in Engineering and worked in High Tech.

Well that's really GREAT....that you're so inclined to the field of Psychology, which is a great field by the way. I am glad to hear that such a young person already knows, what he wants to become....Terrific ! BRAVO !!! And it's the right choice, if you like to be "of service to others"...It's quite an rewarding profession !!!

Now...on the studies...I really can't be of "much help", because I am over here in Germany & over here...you'd have to study at least 3 yrs.(after your "regular" studies of 2 yrs.) And I would not worry all thet much about a "C"- Average....I am sure, you can "improve" as you go along...You still have some time to..."develop"...So just keep that motivation within you. To be a Pyschologist is an honorable career to persue, Garrett, so continue to do the best you can during high-school, which is your "stepping-stone".

On the salary...well...at least over here it's quite a lucrative job-field, especially if you'll open up your "own office" one day...We also have good psychologists in clinics, for instance in : drug-abuse-centers, who make quite a "bit of money" & have a "life-time-employment". So there are several "routes" you can go, Garrett... I am sure, you can make at least 150.000 $ - 200.000$ a year with a doctorate!! I wish you continuous admiration & motivation for the field ! im 13 too, and i have my heart set on acting, and the fashion industry.

go to google, and look up Psychologist. look up EVERYTHING you see, read it all. I'm a straight C student also, but i dont let that get in the way of my dreamm......

Well I know for a fact you DO need to go to college and you HAVE to get a master's degree in Psychology which means you have pass all of your exams.
