Ask the older child what games the two of them like to play. The 8 year old can help you entertain the 4 year old!

Well, you could just stick them infront of TV but that stinks!  Play some games with them-get a ball and sit in a triangle on the floor with your legs spread apart.  Roll the ball to one another and when you roll it, each person must name their favorite (start with food, color, tv show, etc.).  The 4 yo might need a little help thinking of things, but it is fun and includes everyone.  If you want to add a twist, each round, scoot your butts back a little to make the rolling further.  I hope this makes sense!  Have fun and be silly...

I would bring some movies for them to chose from. Or bring some of the things you used to like to play with when you were their age. Thats what i do when i babysit. The kids i babysit like to jump on the bed and being thrown in the air....lol

i would recommend this, talk with the 8 year old.And play with the 4 year old.I have noticed kids older than 6 prefer to talk rather than play.So play "Tag" make the 4 year old "it" and run around chatting with the 8 year old.

Also a good way to keep them busy is to make them draw or color.And another one works is telling "scary stories", this works when you have a kid above 7 so the younger kids will mimic the older kid.And by scary stories i mean stuff like "The big bad wolf" lol
