Yes, you can with a permit, with parental consent or from consent from school counselor. Check with a career counselor...you may be able to tutor students for a min fee, especially with a good GPA, which looks good when it is time to do your scholarship portfolio. Don't give up...most of the scholarship recipients who earned the most scholarships started volunteer and working much younger then you think. Your on the right track.

I did paper routes and babysitting when I was your age.  Now I have 3 kids and always seem to be looking for a dependable babysitter!!  Start with a family you know and hopefully they can give you references.  The pet-sitting and dog walking also seem like good ones too.  Have your parents help you come up with some ideas so you know you have their support as well.

I think the only way to work at a "real" job is if your family owns a business and you work for them. Otherwise, a few ideas:  babysit, pet sit, dog walker, mothers-helper, mow lawns, paper-route, collect cans, make and sell crafts at craft fairs, flea markets, etc. Find used clothing or baby supplies that aren't needed and sell to resale shops. I hope this helps, I personally used to make lots of money babysitting. Take a CPR or babysitting course, I did and families were fighting over who got to use me what weekend. I used to make $30-$40 a night. Good Luck!
