1. I would start with a local EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association) chapter. These chapters are filled with pilots, flight instructors, and most likely airline pilots. They can help you get started. The link below is for the student membership (only $10/ year) to the EAA. Also, ask about the young eagles program. They will give you a free airplane ride. Go to www.eaa.org for more info. Good Luck!

  2. Man!!! I can't believe these responses!!

There are two ways you can become a professional pilot.

    1) Work your butt off and pay for all of the ratings yourself, and maybe your parents can eventually help out a little.

To build your time, you will have to become a flight instructor. That will eventually lead into other jobs. I once was in an interview with United and it turned out they hired a guy with only 1200 hours total time then.

You can expect to pay around $30,000 for all your training and time building to get up to your ATP.

    2) Join the military. You will spend the first 4 years going to college and buffing shoes and cleaning toilets while you get your degree. For some reason you cannot fly unless you have a degree....what a waste. Even then it's not guaranteed. If you do it this way, make sure you sign up for the transports not the fighters. Airline companies look for a team player.

  3. i'm also 14 get a maths and physics degree join the air force get youre liscence and then commercial airline piloting should accept you

  4. im 19, i am a private pilot, and i looked into goin into the airforce.....u must sign up for a minimum of 10 years to be a pilot for them......thats if u can even make it....so.............dont expect a short time in the airforce if u want to join

  5. First step GET microsoft flight simulator X :]

Itll will help you big time :]

  6. one thing to try to get your interest and experiences about what it is about is to join the Air Cadets. It will show that you have an interest in flying and my nephew went from Air Cadets into the Air Force but stil had to meet the criteria to become a pilot in the Air Force where he is now.

  7. In Lafayette The first step is to contact a flight training organizations to schedule a trial lesson. This is normally a ground introduction followed by a 30 minute flight. Depending on where you are, an introduction flight like this range from £50-100 and should leave you with most of your questions answered. Once you have decided you want to be a pilot, your next step is to obtain a medical certificate. They come in two classes; class 1 for professional pilots and class 2 for recreational pilots. If you only intend to fly for fun or you are not sure yet if you wish to pursue flying as a career, I would advice you to get a class 2 medical. Obtain your private pilot license....For more information or any questions go to my source listed below.

  8. You need mega hours to become a commercial pilot, which costs mega money! Easiest way is to do a term with the Air Force or Navy.

Get great grades. There are more wannabe pilots than there are planes. You will have to be one of the best to get in.

  9. Commercial airlines do not accept anyone for jumbo jet training who is not already qualified to fly other aircraft. The best way to get that qualification is to be an Air Force pilot.

  10. ok...my big brother has taken courses..you need to take classes like trig...calculus...and math vourses...but you need auto tech also...its ont only for cars..if you need any ehlp...emial me...

  11. Hey young man good to hear u have a dram, To become a pilot is not that hard. The most important thing u can do is stay in school. and with out a dot u would become one of the best pilots out hear.So all u have to do is stay in school and take it one step at a time....Good luck to u....

  12. Start by getting your private pilot's license. You need to build flight hours and get all your additional ratings, Single Engine Gas, Multi-Engine Gas, Commercial (which just means you can be paid to fly), Single and Multi-Engine Turbines (Turbo-Props or Jets) and IFR (Instrument Flight Rules - an instrument rating so you can fly in bad weather) and be in the right place at the right time.

My son got a job at a local airport when he was 16 in their Flight Operations office and did everything I mentioned above. He flew every chance he could and eventually became a charter pilot flying an 8 passenger dual-turbo for a local company that has its own planes (as a co-pilot because he's still building time to become a captain) and he loves it. He always wanted to fly and now he makes good money doing it!

Eventually, he'd like to fly for a commercial airline or fly cargo for someone like UPS or FEDEX, but he needs to do a lot more multi-engine jet time before even applying for something like that. It all takes time and money for the lessons and ratings.

P.S.: He had no interest in going thru the Air Force and you really don't have to have been in the military in order to fly commercially.

  13. you should talk to your teacher about it or parents they will give you a lot of info about it and how to prepare cause i don't know

  14. The FAA has some great information on how to choose a school and what to look for when choosing a school. Since they are the ones who will certify you, I think they would be the best place to start. (PS - Even if you are not in the US, there is a lot of good information here.)

Once you've got that figured out, there is a whole heap more of information available through their web site starting with this stuff: http://www.faa.gov/pilots/training/
