  1. See if there is a Fire explorer post nearby...

Some departments will allow underage to sit in on their training (classroom) and watch the other training prior to being part of department...

CHeck with your local departments see if they allow an OCCASIONAL ride along.. Gives you a little more insight into the service.

Take first aid and CPR classes.

someone mentioned Firehouse.com  not a bad place..

    Also check out..

www. fema.gov (Federal Emergency Management Agency)

    www.usfa.gov (US Fire Administration)

Both of them have IS (independent study) classes you can take,  Some might be a little advaned, but some you can start dealing with   CERT, hazardous materials around the home, I-100 Intro to Incident Command are some you can take, get a certificate and are free.

As far as school..  Math, Algebra and Geometry is not bad.., Sciences,  Biology, Anatomy and Pys. are GREAT.. Chemistry is good.

Non school wise,  keep up with your Cardio Vascular and strenght training..   Cardio is the BIG one.. when doing agility tests, most people lose their wind, much more than not being able to lift or drag something.

  2. start volunteering

  3. become a fire fighter explorer. check with fire stations in your area some stations have this program and some dont. in this type of program you do physical work and you learn a lot! you even get to go riding with the fire fighters.

  4. As far as your education goes, take physical science, chemistry, and math (algebra and geometry). These classes will benefit you when you attend the academy. You'll also want to keep in good physical shape and eat healthy. And as soon as you turn 16 volunteer with your local FD.

Here are a couple of sites you can visit:

    www.firehouse.com

    www.fireengineering.com

  5. Stay in shape.

    Very vigorous line of work.
