I am 14 and want to become a killer whale trainer. I do know that killer whale training is'nt just easy stuff, but you have to be really commited. To be a killer whale trainer, one needs strong swimming skills. I have taken them in the past, but have not really been swimming now for a while. I got in the pool yesturday (I live in texas) and started swimming, but noticed that I have gone down a bit. Any ways that I can improve my swimming? And I'm 14..do you think I will be able to get better? And how long? Thanks everyone for your answers.

Here was my other question about killer whale training (already answered, but take a look if you want):

  1. Don't become a trainer if you love whales.

Whales don't want to be trained, they want to live in pods in the ocean, and hate issolation. You will be changing their natural behaviour.

If you love them, don't do it.

  2. You definitely can get better. If you think you need more experience, take lessons from a local pool or take private lessons. You can join an area club team and swim competitively to become faster or possible join your high school swim team ( if you have one). If you don't join a team, be sure to keep up on the practice. As a fellow swimmer myself, I know that if I skip a week or two, I start slowing down. I get "lax" and don't really feel like going faster and it takes even more time to build up to the point where I used to be. Best of luck, and I hope you achieve your goal!
