  1. Folic Acid is one of the important ingredients in prenatal vitamins.  Folic acid prevents problems like spina bifida; this is an important ingredient in the begining of a pregnancy, and pregnant women need more than the average person consumes.  Iron is an important ingredient as well, especially towards the middle and end of the pregnancy, when a woman's need for iron increases.  I wouldn't worry.  I didn't find out I was pregnant until I was six weeks along, and unfortunately, I smoked until then, did not eat well, did not take prenatal vitamins, and took an anti-depressant, and my son is perfectly healthy-- not one problem at all.  Once I found out I was pregnant, I made the best choices I could for my son, and that is what you can do to.  Now that you know these are important, run to the drugstore, pick some up, and take them as directed.  Check out this website:  http://www.thelaboroflove.com/articles/w... .  Also, ask you doctor why he or she did not recommend this important part of your prenatal care!  Good luck with a great, happy, healthy pregnancy.

  2. geesh people, dont you read pregnancy books on how to take care of yourselves or research on the internet, the internet is not just for myspace

flinstone vitamins work well to, my friend had to take them since the pre natals made he sick

  3. Prenatal vitamins are not given as a prescription much anymore since they are sold over the counter wherever you find vitamins.  But read the labels on the back and compare the vitamins before buying.  They aren't all the same.

Failure to take prenatal vitamins is not going to cause harm to your baby.  They ensure your body receives the proper supplements, minerals and vitamins it needs, and provide you with a little extra of these things, to help care for you and baby.

Don't worry.  But head out and get some.  They just increase your chances of having an extra healthy pregnancy and healthy baby.

  4. The doctor doesn't need to prescribe prenatal pills. You can pick them up at pretty much any drugstore or retail chain. He could have recommended that you buy some, but it is up to you to go and get them.

  5. Nothing if you eat well.  I never took one vitamin with either of my kids.  I just made sure I ate healthy.

  6. You can buy them OTC so unless you ask for them some Dr's don't prescribe them they just assume you will know to go buy some prenatals.

  7. as long as you are eating well, nothing can happen but consider another doctor as that is a very important part of the prenatal care if not get some prenatal over the counter at any pharmacy and stay healthy

  8. You can buy prenatal vitamins over the counter. It will ease your worries as soon as you buy some! =) Best wishes for a healthy pregnancy!

  9. You are really only taking pre-natal vitamins for the folic acid. If you have a fairly healthy diet, leafy vegetables, meat, milk, then you should be ok. Start taking a supplement right away though. I'm sure the baby will be fine, and if there is anything wrong, they should be able to spot it on your ultrasound, which you should have soon.

Congrats..and don't stress!!  Thousands of women don't have access to vitamins and have perfectly healthy babies..:)

  10. Talk to your Dr. about getting prenatal pills and if he doesn't prescribe them, I would consider getting a new doctor.  You want to stay healthy and have a healthy baby.  Call your Dr. tomorrow.  It's important!
