You are thinking about it in your teens-that is the right time.

Start saving money to go to one of the professional schools this coming winter. If you start going now, you will learn so much. I am not positive that they will take you at 16, but it does hurt to ask. There are a LOT more players than umpires, you have to get yourself noticed in order to even get a chance to be in a position to get a chance to get looked at for a possibility to get a chance at MLB.

Work out like crazy. Get your body into perfect shape and stay that way.



Do you umpire now? The only habits you should be creating are the good ones-Bad ones are EXTREMELY difficult to get rid of. You must find out what the good habits are. You cannot guess these things.

If you live near a Minor League city, contact the team's office and ask if it would be possible to meet one of the umpires-the answer might be 'no' but, it will not hurt to ask.
