  1. My son is 15 and has diabetes.  He has maintained good control and kept very physically fit by being involved in organized sports.  Try out a new sport at school this year!  You'll get fit and will be amazed out how much less insulin you will need.  Also, ask you endocrinologist about an insulin pump.  Your endocrinologist can also help you with weight issues, and may be able to arrange an appointment with a nutritionist.

  2. Jackie, I know what you are going through. I have been type 1 since 1 yr old. I remember being a teenager and hating everything about diabetes. People honestly don't notice all of the things you hate. Usually people are looking at your pretty hair or eyes and not your scar tissue.

The only way I got rid of the huge lumps on my arms was when I got an insulin pump. Now my stomach is a mess but I wear a shirt to always keep it covered, except when I wear a bikini. People don't notice what I see. I'm always told how good my belly looks.

Don't worry about the minor stuff. Worry about what could happen if you don't take care of yourself. You could lose a leg, a toe, go blind, etc, those are the important things.

There are millions of us with scar tissue and honestly, it's ok.
