Question:

I am 16. Should I drop out?

I hate high school. Really, I do. I want to drop out, and go to the adult school so I can get my GED. And from there, I want to go to the community college. Good idea? I think when it comes to getting a job one day, they dont care about high school, they care about college. So is this a good plan? My sister did this when she was 16, and now she makes good money, and owns her own house. She isnt married, and she is only 24. Should I do what she did?

  2. a ged is great for people who, for whatever reason, could not finish high school.  if you are already in high school...suck it up and deal.  i hated highschool....everyone i know hated it.  but you just gotta do it.  even though getting a ged qualifies as the same as a diploma, its not the same thing.

plus.  your sister is much older than you.  she probably just squeaked by.  in today's society you not only need a high school AND a college diploma...to make any kind of REAL money you need to go to grad school.

the experiences you have throughout high school will help prepare you for college and beyond.  if you skip over those important learning opportunities, and just take a test that gives you a piece of paper with "GED" on it, you miss out.

plus...you only have two more years, right?  just get it over with...

and ABSOLUTELY go to college, regardless of what you decide to do about the GED

  3. No! can't you wait 2 more years?

  4. I honestly don't think you should drop out...theres alot of other options like alternative schools if you hate your school that bad...things could turn out different for you then they did for your sister so don't think it's that easy because college is even harder then high school...and in my area people who are hiring actually want to see a specific name of a school on your diploma not just having the equivalent of one, it could be different where your at though, but atleast try to hang in there some of the things we hate we have to go through... you only have like another year or two I think you can do it! =D

  5. Don't drop out, because what if you find a really good job you really want when you're older and they tell you that since you dropped out, you can't have the job? I would stay in school.

  6. i'm 16 also and i know high school sucks because it really does.

but i would hate it if i dropped out and my friends were all still there.

and even if you went to an adult school no one your age would be there and you would still have teachers.but in the end its up to you and no one else it's what makes you happy

  7. Some people just don't need to go to high school and do just fine like your sister.  If you intend to get your GED and go straight to community college, that is totally up to you and I would guess you would be just fine.  Most jobs do not look at high school....only college.  But, they prefer to hire people with a college degree.  To get into college, they look at your high school grades and what things you were involved in...the better the grades, and more clubs/activities you were in, the higher your chances of getting a scholarship...which looks really impressive on a resume to potential employers.  It's all up to you and if you think you have the motivation and self-discipline that college requires.

Just keep in mind that high school is free, and college is thousands of dollars; plus you won't be with anyone your own age.  Mostly people in their 20's.

    Good luck!

  8. Your Joking Right.. cuz thats not funny.. you realize if ur sister did well how much better off she would be with it. If i was an employer and i were to get 2 people with the exact same application and 1 went to high school and one didn't i would pick the one that went . If u tell someone u got a scholarship people look up to u if u tell them u dropped out of hgh school they will look down.

Its your choice be wise and don't pick the easy way out the truth is life it hard and if u think high school is hard get up from your kester and look at the struggles of people in Africa or other places, but the fact u can go on yahoo answers with internet and ask if a blessing.

  9. ummmm sure if you plan on getting your GED. and going to CC.

i hated HS with a passion but stuck it out.

    good luck.

  10. Yes, drop out. Having a few losers hanging around makes it a lot easier for us motivated people to find happiness and success by walking all over you.

  11. STAY IN SCHOOL

    Really its the best thing.

At your age everyone is just itching to get out of highschool and are so done with it. But you really just need to stick it out and finish it.

Your gunna miss out on all the fun stuff (mostly dealing with your senior year)

I remember I hated high school too. Like seriously HATED it

Now i look back and think geez it wasnt so bad.

  12. No way! High school is the best part of school don't do it!!!!

  13. DO NOT DROP OUT OF HIGH SCHOOL. If you have any problem later with securing your GED, that high school education will come in handy. Employers DO care about your education. A drop-out will not be seen as a good worker compared to an applicant who obtained his diploma. It shows whether or not you can endure/stick with something you may dislike. It gives them an idea of how hard you will work for them. Employers do not want employees who don't care about work or who won't pull through the rough times.

STICK WITH IT. No matter how much you dislike it, you will want that diploma one day. Besides, your employers are not the only ones who will benefit from it; the knowledge and experience will benefit you, too.

This 'persuasive essay' has now come to a close.

  14. No, you shouldn't drop out. You can't go to the adult school until you're 18. It's not that difficult to just stay in high school for another year or two and graduate and then go straight into college, instead of waiting 2 years being a blob (nobody will hire you since you're not in school and you don't have a GED/diploma) and then getting the GED and then trying to get into college.

  15. Well I can't say thats all that good of an idea but if thats what u want to do then all i can say is I hope it turns out the way u hope it does.

  16. Just stick it out! You're soooo close! I believe it does matter when employers see GED or High school Diploma it makes a difference. You could opt to do half school have community college. Talk to you high advisors I know a couple of people that did that and were able to graduate earlier and just start community college what would be their senior year of high school

  17. You have to have a plan. Not just sitting around day dreaming either. You have to do some research on things that you want to do and that can make you some money. It is hard to find both. You are young enough that you can make that happen if you really really really try hard. Dont blow it, the harder you work in school the more options you will have in life. as for you sister she sounds like a decent role model but dropping out should be an absolute last resort. I hate to tell you but it takes hundreds of thousands of dollars a year to really be good money. If you sister is making that then more power to her but not many high school drop outs are. I sure am not and every time someone around my age asks me when I graduated, my stomach turns. you will be glad you finished, you will be proud of yourself.

  18. Hey I nearly did this. Yeah high school can seem very limiting and redundant when you're ready to move on to bigger and better things. But almost everyone (with a brain) feels this way...you are not alone. In the end, it's your call. But the way I see it, you've already invested about 10 years in the public education system...what difference does one more year make? You won't get a chance to go back if you regret it later.

But you are right about the getting a job part. And btw you can save a lot of money by going to a community college for a year or two before transferring to a university. Good luck whatever choice you make!

  19. well dont drop out, and roflmfao!!!!!!!!!!! good luck getting into college when u havent even completed high school!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! hahhahahaha, ull never get in college if u havent done high school, please this question sounds soooo silly, high school is easy and do it like the trillions of people before u

  20. if you can't handle high school you may not be able to handle college either. And even community colleges will take people with high school over a person with a GED when they have a choice. Your sister is lucky..it doesn't always work that way.

Yes employers will look at if you finished high school or not,  I often question why someone only has a GED.

  21. stay in highschool, right now im a super senior and i also have to come back next year just to graduate, it sux, but trust me just stick with it and get your diploma

  22. high school really isnt for everyone. if you think it would be better for you to drop out then do it. just make sure you do something with your life. dont end up at burger king. get a g.ed and go to community college & take your sister for example shes doing good at a pretty young age and she did it. i think you would be fine. every adult on here is gonna tell you not to but im 16 and i know that school sucks. my mom wont let me drop out or i would. do whats good for you and your life

  23. no.

  24. I skipped school all the time my freshman, sophomore, and junior years. I failed so many classes because of it. By the time I was a senior, I was so far behind on credits, I would have had to repeat my senior year to graduate. I was really disappointed in myself because I'm not stupid, I just didn't have my priorities right. So I dropped out 2 weeks into my senior year. I got my high school diploma by doing it at home. At the time, I thought I was awesome-I was so happy to leave school nearly a year before all my friends. All the adults in my life told me I'd regret it someday. I certainly didn't believe them. I'm only 21 now, but I regret those decisions more than anything now. I missed out a lot by choosing to leave my senior year. Right now, I'd do anything to go back to high school. I miss all my friends, I miss the experiences. I think you should make the best of it and have fun so you don't have any regrets later.

  25. I think a high school diploma is the best way to go.  yes you could get your GED, BUT that doesnt look as good.  I am 23 and have a GED and I have found it VERY hard, and shameful most times, to admit that.  Its better than not having it at all... BUT I feel that diplomas are best.  And you may not realize it now, but this affects so much of the rest of your life.  Good luck on your decision, and I hope you make the best one!

  26. NO YOU SHOULD STAY IN SCHOOL, i just started high school and win you get a apply for college a high school diploma looks good on a n application and it looks good on job applications and if you drop out they will take your license. And plus you want to stay in school as long as possible!

  27. That's a horrible idea. Everyone wants to drop out around that age. I'm telling you, just tough it out and finish school.

  28. finish school i wouldnt employ someone that keeps dropn out whats to say you wont drop out of the job i give you finish school dont be a loooooooser

  29. Puleeze, do NOT drop out of school.  America is now number 24 in the world when it comes to education - we were once number one!  Furthermore, drop outs earn at least one million dollars less in their lifetime.  Your plan isn't smart.  A GED is not held in the same esteem as a real school diploma.  Reading will help make you smart.  It worked for me.

  30. Well, at least you still want to pursue getting an education and starting a career. However, like myself you would miss out on social events with people in your peer group like prom, dances, games, etc. If you feel you can live w/o it and not gain the whole "high school" experience or not care for it then stick with going to college. Ask your sister for some advice. Once you get your degree your GED will not matter, it'll be more of a stepping stone to get into college.

  31. as long as you get a GED is the best answer for this you will get no where with out a GED if you hate high school than go to a adult school .
