I am a 17 year old female, living with my parents. I am out of the court system and not really willing to go back in it, so emancipation is not an option.

I will be 18 in 1 1/2 month and i have places to stay.

Also, I have gotten my GED and am signed up for college (however, I'm probably going to get a refund and drop out so i can go somewhere else.)

Thank you.

  1. i guess u can move out. but do you have money to pay your own bills

  2. Under Arkansas law, since you already have your GED, you can move out once you turn 18.  Under Arkansas law, the age of majority (when you are considered to be an adult) is when you turn 18 or when you graduate from high school, whichever is LATER.   If you leave sooner you will be considered a runaway.

If you have somewhere to live and you have your GED so you can get a job, then just try to stick it out the 1-1/2 months and then move out.  Your parents cannot legally stop you.

  3. You will have to check with your states laws concerning age of majority.

Technically you can move out when ever you want, it's just how hard will it be.  I am not sure about AK, but in Texas, for example, age of majority for Males is 17 while it is 18 for Females.

Nebraska is 19, D.C. and Mississippi are 21.. I believe AK is 18
