  1. No and no. You certainly cannot just "cancel" your contract after they just put all this training and money into you. You can request an MOS change, but that's something that's typically granted as part of a reenlistment package.

  2. Why are you asking all these questions about chickening out of being in the National Guard.

Grow up, and finish what you started, do it with honor

  3. You can request a change and it may or may not be granted. However, you can not cancel your contract.

  4. You can't cancel your contract it's not a computer program. They got your *** till that paper says they don't!! No really they got you till you sign your DD214. I know if your deployed and your contact is up (navy wise) they keep you till you make port.

  5. The answer to that is NO!  You maybe able to change your MOS when your current enlistment is near over...You knew what oath you took at your enlistment, you are very legally bound by it.

  6. I too joined the Guard when I was 17. I joined as a tanker and went to basic at Knox, then came home for my senior year in high school. In the 9 months between basic and AIT my battalion reorganized. I was able to change from tanker to transportation, and switch AIT from Knox to Ft. Leonardwood.

I don't know what your situation is, but changing MOS the kind of thing that you unit's commander has to approve. The problem is that the state pays for your training, not the Army. If they don't want to pay again, they don't have to.

If they don't you need to just bite the bullet and complete your training to the very best of your ability. Then when you are out of training, start talking to recriuters about going active. Once again, it takes command approval, but they are more likely to let you go active.
