ive been playing since i was 8 and have always loved to practice, play, and get better. i have played in several tournaments but havent done too well. i played for my high school all four years and played decent. never have really won any awards or anything. i never had any real training either until this year. i joined a titleist performance institute three months back and have really worked hard and really learned a lot about my swing. i shoot anywhere from 76-83. my scores and getting lower and more consistent after my training. i want to know that since i havent really won anything is it still possible for me to become a pro. i really feel that i can do it.

  1. I suppose it is "possible". It would be much more likely if you were a woman. Try for a scholarship and see where that takes you. That's what I'm planning on doing.

  2. Yes, it is still possible, however unlikely.  Today, more players are being bred as young amateurs and immediately turn pro, however, some can play mini tours and advance their way to the PGA TOUR.  But to be honest, your shot is very unlikely especially with the scores you shoot and your lack of tournament experience.  If you plan on going to college, check out the golf there and see if you can walk-on.  If you make a DI or DII school then you have a realistic shot, if not or anything less, stick with your major.

  3. You have to dedicate your whole life to the sport and I think you should look into it to really understand what these guys have to go through week in and week out.  They are the best in the world and its extremely difficult for them to have gotten there too.  But anything is possible, just realize that it takes an incredible amount of work.

  4. Greg Norman decided when he was 16 that he wanted to become a professional golfer (never having played before), and within 18 months was down to scratch. Anything is possible if you are determined and have the work ethic to make it happen.

    Good Luck

  5. Go to college if you can got to Arizona State they have one of the Nation's best college rankings in college golf or Stanford if your smart &good and got a little cash >>good luck

  6. Years ago if a person declared himself a pro golfer, that was all it took to resign his amateur standing. Today to become a club pro, one serves an apprenticeship under a certified club professional, has to attend training sessions for teaching , merchandising, pro shop management and public relations. As a final qualification he must perform on the golf course  and shoot a score of no more than 3 over par for his round. Once this happens his application is approved by a PGA organization.  If he wishes to qualify for the PGA tour, he has to go through a regional qualifying tournament where the lowest  scoring players, go on to the PGA qualifying tournament where a specific number qualify to play on the regular tour,a second lowest group qualify for the minor tour, like Nationwide.
