I am 18 and have little jobs like babysitting. How do I get a credit card to build my credit?

Question

I make $400 to $800 a month but it is gardening, babysitting, etc. Always paid in cash. I have had a checking account for 5 years from the same credit union. Have never ever run out of money on the account or ever bounce a check.

I am 18 and want to get a credit card so I can build credit. I keep getting turned down, even on student plans because I am labeled as "unemployed" I have been working for 5 years in the nannying/babysitting and gardening jobs.

HOW DO I GET A CREDIT CARD????

Ok cowgirl what you need is called a secured credit card. Just apply for one with Orchard Bank or Capital One (check their websites) send them $300-500 or more if you can afford it and they'll issue you a card for the same amount. Although secured this is a real credit card that gets reported to the credit bureau.

- always pay on time

- always pay in full

- if you can't pay in full...pay the minimum (don't make this a habit though)

- don't let anyone ever use your card

- don't max it out, only use up to 25% of your card limit at a time.

you can apply for this credit card, http://fexr.com/22mr . its made for people like you who have no credit history or bad credit. i wouldn't be able to tell you the kind of limit you would be able to get but its guaranteed to be at least 1500 i think. i was able to get a 2500 dollar credit line myself with my horrrrrible credit.

i would say, try Walmart, Target, Ross or some store similiar to the ones i listed.

Do you NEED CREDIT or do you NEED A CREDIT CARD. You could get a small loan from a bank or finance company to build credit. If you have a checking account I would go to your bank because they can tell you have money. I got a small loan from both at different times and then got store cards and you can get credit built from all of those! If you just want a credit card that is different. An easy way to get one is once you get a little credit you could apply for a sears mastercard they are easy to get but the APR sucks  you can use it just like a master card

Are you getting offers in the mail?  If some has a low fixed interest rate like under 12% or even 8%, go for it.

Otherwise, start a secured credit card.  Read it up on wikipedia.
