I have used Frontline Plus on my dogs twice since becoming pregnant but I have used gloves and do not touch the area. They sleep in the bed with us but they do not touch me. I am worried about being exposed to the chemicals on their skin. Am I worrying about nothing?

Also, I have cleaned the house twice with Pledge and Scrubbing Bubbles and did not wear gloves and am worried about that too. I have used an alcohol based air freshener and hair spray that is pretty strong a few times too. Has anyone else out there done these things while pregnant? I just need some reassurance!!

  1. Overall I wouldn't worry about it. If you are thinking something is too strong then don't use it or have your husband do it or something. I don't wear gloves when I clean anyway but there is more danger from the fumes. You would probably have to be exposed to a ton of it for it to do any damage. When I clean I've switched out my bathroom cleaner to a 7th generation non-bleach cleaner (I actually did that pre-preg just cuz I couldn't take my old bleach one anymore) but I still use the bleach cleaner in the toilet and I still use the common brands of cleaners elsewhere around the house. Don't sweat the little things but if you were planning on doing a major project where the fumes would be hanging around for a while, maybe do it in stages or enlist help and get out of there afterwards for a while.

  2. I just want you to stop and think about cave women.. Do you think they were sanitary or didint touch lead or anything lethal ? Also do you think your mother didnt use cleaning products when she was pregnant with you ;p

  3. There’s nothing wrong with trying to be safe durring pregnancy, but with all of the information out there, it’s really easy to get freaked out.

I am careful, but when I get worried every little thing I do in a day, I just remind myself that women have been having babies for thousands of years without all of the knowledge we have today.  Think of all of the things our mothers or grandmothers would have done without concern because there was no one around to tell them it was dangerous.

Talk to your doctor at your next visit about your specific concerns.

  4. You're totally fine. We are exposed to all kinds of chemicals and pollution everyday, we cannot escape them. Women use the kinds of products that you do all time and suffer no consequences. If they were that dangerous just being in the vicinity of, or from getting a minor exposure on your skin, they would be taken off the market.

  5. i have been putting front line on the dogs used 7 dust on the garden

plus clean with strong disinfectants at work (emt so i have to clean ambulances) so far my dr has said everything is fine.
