  1. You might want to start on a stationary bike like the gyms use. They are heavier duty and less of a chance to get injured.

  2. If price isn't an option, look at getting a frame made for you from companies like Gunnar or Waterford. These are built to last a lifetime under pretty good abuse.

Other than that, a standard bike from a bike company that offers a lifetime warranty on their frame will do but really look at the components. You will need Double Wall Rims at least. If sealed bearings are offered, even better. You shouldn't focus on light weight parts as these will fail faster. A stock Suspension fork won't work right for you so look at a "rigid" fork to hold up. If you need suspension, look at an aftermarket fork from Manitou, Rock Shox, or Fox, as they will make a fork that can be adjusted close to working with your weight.

  3. I kinda agree with both these dudes. If your weight is really that much, you might want to start out on a stationary bike to get your weight down first. YOU HAVE TO WATCH YOUR DIET THOUGH. VERY IMPORTANT. Once you get to a decent weight, then I would get a moutain bike to get a good cadence and burn more. Then if you really want, get the road bike. Fast and fun!
