  1. A private transaction? you could go to a gun store or sporting goods store and get a shotgun if you don't know anyone. Maybe a 20 gauge or a 12 gauge if you can handle that recoil. Since your not 21 you can't get a handgun at a gun store. You can get one in a private sale but do you even know anyone that has one? If you don't check the classified ads in the newspaper or any one of the papers that people put ads in to sell stuff. But be sure to research the gun a little. Also when you get it, get ammo for practicing and at least 50 hollow-point rounds. You can get fmj rather easily.

    Edit: BIG TROLL HERE...

  2. TRUTH ABOUT HANDGUNS:

It is not illegal to buy a handgun under 21.  It is illegal to buy a handgun under 21 from an FFL.  Private resale of any firearm can be conducted at the age of 18 (16 for some guns in some areas).  Furthermore, a family member can give ANY gun (non Class III or course) to another family member at ANY age – that’s right, a one-day-old child can legally be a proud owner of an MAC-10, AK-47, and twin Beretta 92Fs.

Get a direct family member to buy a gun for you.  Alternatively, look for an individual who is selling a firearm.  Legally you should not make arrangement for someone other than family to buy a gun for you… in reality that happens every day.

MOST IMPORTANTLY, check BATFE website for firearm laws and updates.  On Yahoo Answers you get opinions, on WWW.ATF.GOV you get the law currently in effect.

  3. idk, go find a gun collector kind of person.

or go underground into the back alleys and buy one from a chinaman

    or buy a  cordless-tazer

  4. Look in the news paper classified ads. Private transfer is legal in most jurisdictions. If in question, contact the local authorities. Someone could give you a gun but you can not legally receive a handgun by dealer transfer.

  5. ebay

  6. i just want to reply to mike j's answer when he said that if u shoot someone that you can/will go to jail for life... i just want to let you know that i am a criminal justice student in college and my professor was formerly a state police officer. He answered the question that always comes up about shooting and killing someone in your house this way... Should someone break into your house and attempt to harm you, your family, or your property, that you have every right to defend yourself but within reason... if the "attacker" has a firearm in his hand and he is pointing it at you, you should use a little common sense and shoot not to kill but to disable... if it so happens that you do kill the intruder that you won't necessarily be carted off to jail because EVERY SITUATION IS DIFFERENT!!!!! However if he doesn't have a weapon and you shoot him in the back of the head then u will probably go to jail for murder. thanks all.

  7. If you really feel the need to carry a gun for self defense, and you are only 19, you will have to have someone get it for you. But do NOT tell anyone that you carry a gun. Something like a .25 is very small and discreet, and is not even noticeable if you are carrying one.

I know a lot of people who live alone that keep a gun under their pillow.

Also if you are not familiar with guns, or if you just got a new one, make sure you go to the shooting range or a safety course to learn your firearm. The last thing you want is to shoot yourself in the foot while you are getting attacked.

  8. Most state laws state that you may not possess a firearm if you are under the age of 21, unless you are accompanied by an adult when using it. If you live in a state where you are required to register your firearm and you do not have it registered, you run the risk of felony firearms possession. So for your own sake, keep in mind that you are buying this for protection not to get you in trouble. I'm not sure what state you live in but below is a link,http://www.nraila.org/GunLaws/ that will direct you to a map, click on your state of residence and familiarize yourself with the laws that govern firearm ownership in your state. I also included a link to the “Gun Act of 1968,” and the “National Firearms Act;” all of these are essential reading for any responsible gun owner. Know your rights, and know what’s right or wrong. If you are unsure of something, go to a gun range or a gun shop and ask questions. The authorities are going to have a bias in the information they give you, because it’s better off for them to not have people walking around with handguns. Try finding a shooting range and handle as many different guns as you can; this will allow you to get a feel for what feels natural to your stature and abilities, I can’t make you do what’s right or wrong, those decisions are up to you. There certainly are alternatives to gun ownership for self protection, and many of them have been already mentioned. My best advice for you is that you be well informed in your decision before you purchase a firearm.  Keep in mind that if you do enter into a face to face purchase scenario, proceed with caution; after all the seller will definitely be in possession of at least one weapon, and their intentions may not be good,

  9. You go to the cops and apply for a gun license.

  10. you have to have a FOID(firearm owner's identification) card and you can go buy one legally.

  11. Its illegal if you are under 21

  12. well just be careful. you should also carry pepper spray in your purse or pocket or an easy place to reach espcially the gun or consider roomate your closes friend make sure they pay rent. but keep the gun secret in case of an emergency. =)

  13. It comes down to what state you are a resident in.  Federal law states that you can only purchase a handgun from a resident of your own state without having a dealer do the transfer.  A dealer can not transfer a handgun to anyone under the age of 21.  If your state allows handgun ownership and possession by those under 21 and has no regulations for private transfers, then you can purchase one from a family member or anyone else.  Someone can also give you one as a gift.    If you are 19, I would sure hope that your Father, Mother, Grandparent, Uncle, etc can help you out.

  14. So what is your question?

Are you below some kind of minimum age where you live?

You sound intelligent.  Here's the deal.  The smarter someone is, the more they understand the finality of the act of shooting someone with a gun.  This means, typically, the longer they will pause before shooting.  Criminals, often, aren't all that intelligent (street smart perhaps, but not book smart).  Consequently, they won't think to hard before shooting.  When an intelligent person buys a gun for self defense, they rarely get to use it when the time comes, beause said criminal fires first.  That or while they hesitate, the criminal wrests te gun from their hands, turns it around and shoots them.  I'm not saying an intelligent person has never defended themselves, but I'm saying it is the exception and not the rule.

You are probably way better off getting a dog (dogs aren't as smart as humans - give them the command and they won't think twice, heck they won't think once, about it).  Mace is a good option too.  Because you understand it isn't going to kill anyone, you are more likely to use it in an emergency.

  15. 1.You need to apply for a F.O.I.D card.(CURRENCY EXCHANGE,and gun stores, have applications)

2.You need to to learn the gun laws in ur state.

(it's ILLEGAL to own a gun in some cities,Ex:Chicago)

    3. You need to visit gun stores w/ranges and rent several guns, and shoot them..

    4. Learn the law. Shooting someone, even in ur house can/will put u in prison for LIFE!!!!!!!!!!

  16. Make certain that you don't live in a liberal-infested area that could infringe on your God-given right to defense.

  17. 18 for rifle 21 for hand gun for ffl, you can buy a hand gun at 18 by a pesonal sale inherent it or your parents buy you one but dont pay them or else it a straw perches.try glock hope it helped.

  18. having a gun is not the solution. even if it makes you feel safe.

anyways if you do want it anyways make sure you get it registered. so NO do not get someone else to get it for you. that wouldnt be legal.

  19. yo man, you need to get a smock 353 because it has minimal kickback, it has a 32 capacity clip, and its only $239.00

  20. No, don't... seriously, it's a bad idea. Get mace... because you can't commit suicide with mace... seriously.

    don't do this to yourself

  21. Well, unless you are already very gun-savvy consider a Taser.  You should at least take a gun-safety course before owning a gun.  You could have a responsible adult (like your Dad) buy one for you to keep at home for home-defense, or you could buy a long gun (shotgun) rather than a handgun for home defense.  Otherwise, get a Taser for now and wait until you're 21.

    Good luck.

    H

  22. By now you are probably so confused by all the wrong and ,quite frankly, stupid answers that you are not even reading anymore

At 19 you can only buy a handgun in a private transaction, if your state allows it

You can join the gun forum for your state and look in the Buy Sal Trade section for a face to face sale, in accordance to your state laws

You do not need a FOID or gun license, unless your state requires it

You can not have someone else buy the gun for you unless it is as a legitimate gift, provided your state allows you to take possession

If you can't tell where I'm going

YOU HAVE TO TELL US WHERE YOU LIVE IF YOU WANT THE QUESTION ANSWERED

    ====================

    Damocles

I'm sorry if you are actually trying to answer the question intelligently

But with all due respect that is the dumbest  most ignorant statement I have ever heard

  23. most states require you to 21.  get a rifle, you only have to be 18.  or get a taser.  DONT TASE ME BRO

  24. MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HOLY c**p!!! THERES SO MANY LIBERALS HERE!!!!!!!! dont listen to them, they hate freedom. have it gifted to you through your parents and register it in your state and get a pistol permit which would be a few hundred bucks then you can carry it on you or you can get one through a private transaction i would recommend a .357 or 9mm

  25. Well u need to be 21 to buy a hand gun, u can only buy rifles and shot guns in most states. ur better off getting a stun gun or taser, its easer to use and concele.

  26. It is illegal to have some one buy it for you, they call it a straw sell.

Both you and the dealer can get in trouble, just don't try.

You need to know your state laws as it pertains to ownership and purchasing requirements.

If this will be your first firearm, consider the following.

Regardless of type, you need to shoot it on a regular basis. I don't mean once every 3 months either, I mean at minimum once every two to three weeks.

You need to be able to know that firearm inside and out.

You need to know the feel of it.

You need to not be afraid of it's recoil

You need to be able to reload it in the dark.

You need to be able to clear a jam without looking

So giving all the above, I will state that I would not recommend a handgun to anybody as their first firearm for home defense.

I would recommend a Coach gun in either 12 or 20 gauge.

go to http://www.gunbroker.com and search for "coach gun" then take your pick

    My Reasons...

1 - Easy to load and unload

2 - Scatter Pattern - better chance of hitting target

3 - Inexpensive ammo and easy to learn with

  27. Private transaction. I suggest you get a shotgun though. Much more effective for home defense, not expenisve, and legal for you to buy from a dealer.

Dont listen to these people, they think your going to commit suicide or something.

  28. my advice to you is either get a burmese python just to scare people,That's what i like doing, or get a germen sheperd.

  29. depends on state law...if you can own under 21...the feds who regulate the dealers will not allow a dealer to sell to someone under 21.  also keep in mind you cannot by handgun ammuntion from a FFL dealer until age 21.  the way i got my handguns is buy them from my neigbor. which i can do in this state.  my advice would be to get a shotgun.  you can purchase from a dealer. and if its for self defense partice is essental, but not many people practice so a shotgun is alot better of a tool.  if you look up police shooting stats and see how many shots police officers shoot in shootings, its alot.  and they are highly trained!  a shotgun increases your odds of a hit.  if you go handgun load the handgun with Speer Gold Dot ammo...alot of cops use it its good stuff!

  30. hm. what state do you live in? you cant under 21 in many states.

and remember, if you have a gun..

..it can always end up in the hands of the person who tried to harm you.

    so.. move.

  31. If this is for home defense, it isn't set in stone that you have to have a handgun.  While I have several handguns and a CCW permit, my choice for home defense is my 12 gauge pump shotgun.  I have others, but this one is set up for home defense.  It has an 18 inch barrel and 5 shot capacity.  I removed the plug since I don't use it for hunting.  The pump shotgun is a very positive action.  I have owned it for a long time now and have not had one chambering problem.

If a handgun is out of the question due to your age, consider the pump shotgun.  It doesn't have to be a 12 gauge.  If you have trouble with the recoil, a 20 gauge will work too.

Please let us know what you decide on.  It wouldn't hurt to get some pepper spray.
