  1. I think that there is a jockey school in Kentucky and there might be others. If that isn't an option look into getting some experience. If you live near a track,go there and talk to people and maybe it will happen for you.Good luck!!

  2. Don't be discouraged.  Many people try to crush the dreams of other people without even knowing them.  Yes, people should be realistic about their dreams, but keep in mind that if people would never dream then nothing worthwhile would ever be accomplished.  With that in mind...

Here are some ideas (mind you I'm not a jockey and I am new to the business).

    1. Search the net for a horse "jockey school".

    2. Look for a forum about the race horse business and start asking a lot of questions.

    3. Go to your nearest horse track and start asking questions (some people get annoyed by this but some are more than willing to give some advice).

    4. Look for a program where you live.

    5. Then, try to find a job with a racehorse farm or with a track trainer somewhere (as a groom or exercise rider -but they do want experience for that -just get as much experince and confidence as possible-).

    6. Also, I think that there are levels like "apprentice jockey" and "jockey".

    7. As far as I know, jockeys need agents (representation) to be hired for races -this is something that you should inquire about-.

I know it's not much but just get started looking and find your best option.  Wishing you GREAT, BIG LUCK!

  3. Locate the nearest thoroughbred breeding and training farm. This will offer an opportunity to work and learn. Good help is always in demand.

Thoroughbreds are all about the basics. Prime time racing or bush tracks the basics will be the same. Rehab work on older runners and working with young livestock will provide valuable experience.

  5. Well im not saying it cant be done, but you're most likely almost too late to get started at your age. It takes years (at least five) to learn to ride well enough to be a good jockey and if you are not good, you'll starve as you'll find yourself getting very few mounts and even less live mounts (horse that has a good chance of winning). Many of these jocks start off when they are less than 10 years old. They are working horses out of the gate in their early to mid teens.

It is actually easier when you are young to learn to become one with the horse than it is for an older person your age starting out. Also kids seem to be able to bounce right back up easier than someone your age when incidences occur.

The worst thing that hurts your chances are that very few women riders even last past the age of 30-35 as their body dont hold up to the stress put on it as well as the more muscular male.

If you are totally inexperienced with thoroughbreds, you probably have less than a 10% chance at your age of getting there and having some type of successful career.

But dont let my words change your mind. If you want it bad enough, you might pull it off.

I really dont know what advice to give you past that since I dont know any of your experience around horses. It would have been nice had you mention whether you can ride other disciplines or not.

    Good luck!
