  1. Get copies of your credit report (AnnualCreditReport.com) and dispute anything that isn't yours.  Call it ID theft.

    Contact the creditors by certified, return receipt letter indicating these are not your accounts and you suspect ID theft.  Request validation to include copies of contracts or other documentation proving you owe the debt.

    You should also make a police report.  Attaching a copy of the police report will show the creditors that you are serious about the ID theft.

    If you know who used your social security, report them.  If you don't want them to be prosecuted for ID theft, then you will have to pay off the debts and live with whatever negative stuff is on your file.
