When I start getting called "Ma'am" on a regular basis, does that officially make me old? Share stories!

  1. Hah, yes.

I'm seventeen, and I still find it uncomfortable being referred to as 'The Lady'.

Ie- "<insert child's name>, mind out of the lady's way!"

Still, at least they're being polite. There's a lot of worse things to be called xD

  2. I am 21, 22 next month, and a little while ago I was in Superdrug on a busy Saturday afternoon, and a woman with her baby said "Move out of the way of the lady" to her child. I felt well past it.

  3. No, it's just being polite. I worked at a callcenter and I had to call every female maam, regardless of age.

  4. I'm 42 and people still call me sweetie and hun. It is usually someone younger than me too.

  5. i get called 'miss' most of the times. i think that's the best thing to be called for someone around my age, 22.

  6. It's because they pity you because you are a mouthbreather.

  7. Well ppl,

may say to me "Oh honey cute shoes or honey do you need a hair cut"! It gets annoying sometimes but it helps to just say you can call me. . . (by your name or nickname whatever works best for you)! If they keep doing it then ignore it they may just like to frustrate you or they may not listen.

If someone calls you Ma'am they are being pollite, and it doesn't mean you are getting old you are getting more mature and may be seeing ppl who will look up to you. If a kid calls you that it doesnt make any difference they are just doing what they were taught to say and if they are rude! It is just one opinion, so don't sweat it!

REMEBER: dont worry what they all say, and just worry about you!

  8. Ma'am...that's very formal with respect.

  9. They are terms of endearment form the south, even oldtimers are called that, I loved that area of the country.  Now if you live on the left.. er west coast and anyone calls you that I suspect your real old or they can't see straight and think you are their teacher.

  10. I'm 37 and seriously, I still get called the same thing.  It doesn't make you officially old.  I think others just like to address people that way....younger or older than me.  To each their own! :)

  11. Say my name is...... dont call me ****

  12. They are trying to get a reaction from you. just ignore it. I am an elderly person and I call all ladies ma'am. No matter their age..
