  1. Like most of the replies, the tires will be able to support 240 pounds. Might worry you, but make sure to inflate the PSI near the max that the tires allow since you don't want the tires to sag on the ground and attract punctures!

Usually the weight is harder on the wheels; make sure your wheels are durable - not the "racer" type and you should be fine.

I think most adult bikes will support 250 pounds.

    Good / inexpensive wheels @:

  2. Use the kind with knobby wheels.    Trek bike.    It's also nice because you can ride in the woods / off-road.     I weighed 255 when I started working out and dieting.   Now I weigh 219.   You can do it.    Lots of water, and push yourself on your workouts - and diversify - ride, lift, swim.....   You can do it.

  3. Yes, you should be OK. I was about 235 when I took up cycling about 5 years ago after a 15 year absence. Within about 9 months I was down to 185 and have kept it off since.

The bike I am riding is a Trek 520. The wheels have had to be replaced a few times, but not because of weight issues, the roads around here are awful!

  4. yes, the tires will be fine.  the question the you should have asked was will the wheels hold up to the riding you will be doing.  you should not have to worry about the tires but the wheels need to be strong, when looking for a bike look for something with a double walled aluminum rim, try to stay away from anything steel or single walled.  the double walled rim will be a lot sturdier than a single walled rim, also the aluminum will be more resilient and hold up better on the roads.
