I am 26 and I am going to play rugby for the 1st time in college this year...am I going to have any problems?

I've never played Rugby before and I'm excited. I am in excellent condition. What should I expect?

  1. to be injured and have fun.  my brother has been playing it since college, and has broken his collarbone in two places (surgery after it didn't set right), and his orbitol bone (under his eye-surgery again), and numerous others.  sadly, it was all by his teamates!

    i keep telling him to quit, but he loves it.  hopefully, you've played football before.  that helps.  good luck, and cover your goods!


  2. prepare to be shell shocked as watching rugby and playing rugby are entirely different. You will definitely encounter alot of problems. Firstly is stamina. Try and pace yourself as remember you will be playing for 80 minutes. Do not use unnecessary energy by just running around aimless. Secondly is thinking. If you are not thinking while playing rugby than you will be lost. You have to make on the spot decisions on your own. Lastly bro, thank you for seeing the light. Rugby is a the game played in heaven. Good Luck with your game

  3. Rugby is just awesome.  I've only played a few times in informal games but it's amazing.  You WILL get hurt, but you will forget about it quit.  Thanks for giving a real sport a chance.  Plus, I hope you really are in good shape, real good shape.

  4. Let's see. You will be running for forty minutes at a time (and I mean RUNNING). At some point you will end up on the bottom of a scrum with several large guys on top of you. You will get some pretty good bruises and a knee to the cheek at some point. If you're the hooker then at least once the hooker from another team will rake your shins with his cleats.

    If you have any reason to think you might have a calcium deficiency (like say you drink a lot of soda) then it might behoove you to get a bone-density scan (probably as a young guy you're fine but I'm a little paranoid)

    It's a great sport. You'll get hurt, but not that badly. You'll get drunk with your teammates (and the hangovers will be viscious). And the endorphin rush is incredible. I hope you have as much fun as I did.

    And remember: Pain fades, glory is fleeting, and chicks dig scar tissue.
