How can I train for a new skill whilst still paying my mortgage and bills etc? I have a well paid job but i`m not very happy in what I do. I would love to go back to schooling to learn a new skill and change careers but how? I only have GCSEs although I have the abilities to go further. Is it possible to train for a new skill full time whilst still paying my bills? Or part time? I would love to learn a trade or a skill, but due to working to pay my bills I find it very difficult. Help....please.

  1. sorry that ur job sucks. mine does too.

  2. try online work

  3. you can do  a qualification from home, like from learn direct or open university, decide what course u want to do and apply, diff fees apply for diff courses. but u do it in ur own time at ur own pace and have contact with tutors through emails, and then usually u go to a local college to take the exams at the end

    good luck

  4. maybe its just the environment you work on, but having a morgage at that age i great the sooner your done with that the better.but online schools are not bad too my teacher got het phd that way,

  5. There are courses that some colleges offer which fit in with those of us who work full time.  Evening being the first on offer.  There are Distance Learning packages, where you self tutor through modules etc.  What you really need to do is to phone one of these organisations and talk to one of the student/careers advisors.  However, lik everything there is an element of deferred gratification and a cost in terms of time and money, but worth it if its to get what you want.  Good luck!

  6. correspondence courses through a university.

  7. You could rent your house out (and use this to pay your mortgage) and live in a unit. With the same idea you could rent out part of your house.

You could pay interest only on your mortgage while you study.

Or you could continue working and study part-time.

Or you could (if this is a possibility for you, live at your parents house while you study...)

I guess you will have to make a budget and see what you can do. Get your mortgage rejigged.

  8. work your but off until the ride is over then change careers. trust me on this one. No matter what you think you should be doing in the end will all seem worthless. I have earned very good money more than most of the supervisors I have had after, and felt that I was not doing what I loved then I changed. I have learned that everywhere you go you will find that eventually you will feel the same and guess what when you realize that you are almost in the same spot earning less but who cares as long as your bills are getting paid and you live a decent life. Not to be cocky but I earned in one year what four of the supervisors I have had since working in different places make in one year together. And now I am making half of what one of them made a year my self. Funny how it things turned out, but I tell you this I am happy when i leave work that is. When I am at work I work that is all that there is to it. SO if you are making money now stay there because no matter where you go it will be all the same. Even if people tell you other wise.............GOOD LUCK and I do hope I helped you out.......Oh and  I do have a post secondary education

  9. Check your local college listings. Many offer Weekend and/or evening classes.

When my gf and i split up, i bought her out by re mortgaging, shooting my outgoings up. I work full time 5 days a week, 8-5. A friend suggested as i am to you night classes at college, i chose "doorman" as it suits me perfectly, i have my regular job through the week, and im a doorman fri,sat and sun night. The wage is good. And helped out so so much.

it only took 6 weeks, 2 days a week, 6-9pm. £120 for my (doorman badge)

However, if your planning on a diff career, theres millions of skilled workshops(ie plumbing etc) at my local college offereing evening classes, so im sure ther will be some nearby you also.

  10. You can get a career development loan, you can borrow up to about £8000 to cover fee's and expenses and such, but obviously you have to pay them back when you finish education.

    Id recommend evening classes personally.

  11. OOPS

  12. Wow, you sound like me 15 years ago. I never did retrain cos I was always too worried about the mortgage. Have you room to take in a lodger? That can pay a large chunk of the monthly bills.
