I'm 29 and am on a very low wage and appreciate I need to retrain as a I only have "performing (cough) arts" qualifications and 2 level 2 GCSEs in English and Drama, but am confused as to what? I consider myself as creative and struggle with numbers. I would like to go for a career that is and will be in demand well after I (fingers crossed) qualify. Any thoughtful answers would be appreciated. For some reason I was toying with re taking GCSE maths :( ..2D CAD and a photoshop course?

  1. Now is a good time to book an appointment with your local FE college advisor. They can talk through your options with you.

Perhaps an Access course - that would take you to university.

  2. Try taking an adult course(s) at a local college around where you are. I am not sure what your interests are, but yes work on those math skills of yours because they will be in demand in the future if not now.

  3. Careers in Technology are among the highest paying careers and there are many areas you could specialize in so you could nuture your creativity.   Explore your options for federal education funds to help pay for the expense.

  4. Some form of maths course would be brilliant. If you don't have a degree, most employers would usually ask for some proficiency in maths, even if it's only at GCSE level.

2D CAD and Photoshop are also great choices - but only if you want to go into work directly using them. Otherwise, it's a bit pointless if it's only extra work. If you want to go into some sort of design though - excellent, go for it!

  5. Any business classes will be beneficial.  If you struggle with numbers, maybe you need to be focusing on math classes to improve that area.  Classes in things like photoshop and CAD are not bad options, but those certifications are a dime a dozen and you can learn that stuff on your own.  You would be better off focusing on management and business classes, like accounting and finance, business writing, computer classes and the like.  That will develop you more fully for any career choice.
