  1. SAP and Microsoft are very different from each other and SAP is a lot harder than MS to learn. However these days it seems like "everyone" wants to do SAP. Already the SAP job market is competitive enough for employers to be able to be choosy when recruiting. In other words if you do SAP you've got to be really good at it to get a job. Thinking in the long run, MS might be a better option for you because it is your area of know-how and not everyone can compete with you when applying for a job. Of-course you will have some of competition in MS as well but in SAP and you would be graded almost as a fresher against others who have about a year or two of SAP experience.

However at the end of the day the decision is up to you and it depends on where your passion is. Don't do Microsoft or SAP or anything else just because of a trend or because they pay well. You need to get in to something that you are passionate about in order to make a successful career out of it.

  2. SAP Basis Admin's job involves deep understanding of OS, DB and the actual SAP Basis software. When I had been through the formal course of SAP Basis, I had to learn Linux Suse 9, Oracle 10 g in detail. Although your experience of being  as MS System Admin might come in handy, getting an SAP Basis Admin job is not so easy, as usually, most of the companies ask for at least 3-5 yrs of actual experience.
