10 ANSWERS

  1. Labour starts when the hormones oxytocin and prostaglandins start to circulate within the mother's body, causing the cervix to thin and dilate and the uterus to contract.

Unless these hormones are present, any do-it-yourself attempts to induce labour won't be very successful, and on occasion can cause more harm than good.

Taking castor oil can be downright dangerous - it stimulates the bowel to contract, not the uterus, it's uncomfortable and in extreme cases can cause dehydration.   Using herbal remedies unsupervised is very unwise - herbs in certain combinations can be toxic and you risk poisoning yourself or your baby.

Eating spicy food, taking long walks etc etc whilst they aren't harmful, won't cause your body to produce oxytocin or prostoglandins.

When your body and your baby are ready, things will happen.

If your pregnancy is prolonged and an induction is needed, leave it to a doctor or midwife to supervise as an induced labour carries a slightly higher risk than a natural labour where your body is totally ready.

  2. castor oil long walks and the one told most by doctors...have s*x

  3. first, remember the due date is just an estimate.

castor oil may be effective, but you should know it tastes really bad and causes diarrhea. s*x can help, but you need to have A LOT of it. walking is great, but also get some rest in as you will need that strength for labor. if you like pineapple, eating fresh (not canned) may help.

    good luck!

  4. The first stages of labor can last days and for some woman even stops and starts. The things you could try to bring on labor more is walking, hot baths, they say curries, pineapple, s*x, nipple stimulation and squatting down brought my labor with my 2nd.

  5. this is what ive heard people have tried, dont know if it works or if its safe to try and induce/trigger yourself...............castor oil, s*x, walking up ad down stairs.........i was overdue with my second , it wasnt too bad really !! oh and I guess its safe to pray !

  6. i dont know if these work, but this is what i was told when i was pregnent; eat hot currys, have lots of s*x, walking, walking up and down stairs. good luck!!

  7. Natural Ways to Induce Labor

As you reach the end of your pregnancy, you may begin looking for natural ways to induce labor. Please keep in mind that you should not use any of these methods until you are past your due date. No method is guarranteed to work. Even drugs like pitocin do not always work at inducing labor. If your baby and body is not ready, labor will not begin. Please consult your health care provider before trying any of these methods.

Here are some of the most common methods women try to induce labor naturally

Sexual intercourse - This works in two ways to induce labor. First, female o****m can bring on contractions. Second, s***n contains prostaglandins. Prostaglandins work to help ripe and soften the cervix.

Nipple stimulation - Stimulating the nipples triggers the production of natural oxytocin. Oxytocin contracts the uterus.

Accupressure - Accupressure may be helpful in inducing labor. Some pressure points you can try are the roof of your mouth, the webbing of your fingers between your pointer finger and thumb, and above the ankle about four fingerspaces above is a pressure point.

Stripping the membranes - This can only be done by a health care provider. Your doctor or midwife will seperate the bag of waters from your cervix and this is thought to help encourage labor to start.

Raspberry Leaf Tea - Rasberry leaf tea is not actually known for it's labor inducing properties, but it is believed to be helpful in toning the uterus and helping with labor.

Cinnamin stick tea - Take cinnamin sticks and boil them into a tea and drink. It actually tastes good so even if it doesn't bring on labor it may help you to relax.

Evening primrose oil - Evening primrose oil comes in small capsules similar to vitamin E. It is believed to help soften and ripen the cervix.

Walking - Walking may help to get baby to drop into proper position.

Visualization/relaxation - Relaxation can help with labor induction. Try doing relaxation exercisers. They are also good practice for when labor actually begins.

Pineapple, cumin tea, eggplant parmesan, and spicy foods - are another thing you can try.

Other methods we do not recommend for inducing labor

Castor oil - Castor oil is also used for inducing labor. It tastes horrible! It is likely to make you feel sick and it probably won't work.

Herbs - There are other herbs you can use to induce labor. Without consulting your doctor or midwife we do not recommend the use of herbs.

  8. if you are religious PRAY if not watch tv and wait if it gets to be to far overdue the doctor will know what to do and it will be done in a controlled environment where you and your child will be monitored for a safe a happy delivery by the way WALK WALK WALK  by walking you are giving gravity the chance to help the baby push down that is the only safe method and drug free method i have ever heard of

  9. Hey there i know it can be tough but hang in there. You where probably hoping the baby would come at 38 weeks, but its not always the case.I am 41 weeks pregnant and have just gone into the early stages of labour, mind you i have had pain for the better half of the last month. The best thing for you to do is to stay relaxed, go on walks and try to enjoy the scenery rather than wondering if this is doing anything to induce the labor. Be intimate with your partner as this time can produce the hormones you need, and ty and enjoy it, it can be hard i know. Something that calmed my nerves about going overdue was an article i read about induction. Induction does not give your body the mental and physical strength you need in order to give birth, because it come like a massive PANG straight after thy break your water, and you kinda go into shock. This is not the case for all women ofcourse. Plus i read that there was a lady who got induced at 41 weeks and being past full term this should have been fine but the babies lungs did not develop and the doctor said it probably needed a few more days, as a result mum and bub where in hospital for 2 weeks verses the 3 to 4 days. So just hang in there and im sure your time will come. HEY LOOK AT IT THIS WAY YOU CANT STAY PREGNANT FOREVER!!!!

  10. walk-with someone that can catch you. walking brought on all of my babies.
