I am 47. I have not had a period for 2 years. Is it safe to say that I cannot get pregnant at all?

What does anyone have to say about this.

I just had unprotected s*x 3 days in a row for the first time.

My doctor says that I am in menopause.

Is there any chance that a woman can still ovulate.

Any input would be appreciated.

thanks.

  1. When a woman goes through menopause she no longer ovulates that meaning you are no longer producing eggs. If you are no longer producing eggs well that means you cant have babies.

  2. I was watching in Discovery Health Channel that as long as you have a fertile egg and sperm you can get pregnant. With or without period and if your menopausal.I saw this lady that they told her she was infertile and ahe didn't have a period for 5 years the show is called ''I DIDN"T KNOW I WAS PREGNANT"

  3. You wish you could get pregnant from the way you worded that.  At least you are getting laid and that is probably more than many ladies in your age group can say~

  4. sorry i woulnt think you would still ovulate if you havnt had a period for 2 years, i would go and talk to your gp about it.

  5. Never assume!  Go see a doctor and see if you are in menopause.  Some women get pregnant during this time.  It is never smart to have unprotected s*x, since you are still at risk of sexually transmitted diseases.

    See a doctor ASAP!

  6. have your doctor run a blood panel--it can tell whether or not you are ovulating or not.

  7. It is not as likely but yes you do still have the chance of falling pregnant.  Menopause can last for between 7 and 9 years before you will completely stop ovulating.  My mother is 44 and she has been going through menopause for 5 years already and has even had a partial hysterectomy(They took her uterus out only and left the ovaries in) and she still has viable eggs she just would not be able to carry a baby without a uterus.  After about 7 - 9 years you will not be able to ovulate but by your age it sounds like you may only be in early stages so therefore you would still ovulate but maybe not a frequently as you would normally do.  For example you may only ovulate every 6 cycles or something like that.  If you are worried about being pregnant, just go see your doctor and get him to do a blood test.  That is the most effective way to detect it.  You should be ok but there are also ovulation kits that are similar to pregnancy tests that you can do at home to determine if you are ovulating before you have intercourse just to be sure you are not at risk at that time.  Hope this helps.

  8. Yeah, once you hit around your 50s, which 47 is close, you hit menopause and you become barren. As sad as it is, once you get to that point, it can't be undone.
