Ive been riding for 3 years and Im 14. I like riding track and on my small bike I can clear most jumps and obstacles at my local track. I do like riding trails though and am pretty agressive however my dad thinks i am too small and inexperienced for a yzf 250 my friends dad wishes too sell me for a great deal. I feel as if it is a big step up from my little drz 125L but Ive outgrown it. Also does anyone know how to lower seat hieght on any given bike so if i am to buy it i could make it more managable...thanks

  1. No way especially if its a four stroke i am about  the same age and weight and height and i ride a kx 250 two stroke four strokes have a litle better control than a two stroke becuase they are not as snappy but i have been riding since i was five so im not sure

  2. I dont think so. I'm also 14 5'7 and 140 pounds and i've been riding for a year (plus a year when i was 5 or 6) and i am currently riding a 250. But That Is A big Jump but i went form a 150 to a 250. It Really Depends. Ask your friends dad if you can ride it a little Before you buy it becuase it might be. Well Have Fun

  3. I spoke to my husband about this because he has been riding MX since the 70's (he's 50 years old and still at it) and we raised 3 boys on dirt bikes and racing. He feels that based on what you said your experience is, you should do fine on the YZF250. It could be that your dad is worried about you getting hurt, which as parents ourselves, we understand. Maybe your friends dad will let you test ride the bike at a track so you will know for sure if you can handle it, and to also show your dad that your ready for the change. Also, my husband tells me theres something called the sag on a dirt bike that can be adjusted for height, but recommends you have a mechanic at a local bike shop do it for you. By the way, have you heard of a motocrosser by the name Ricky Carmichael? He isn't a big guy either! Good Luck!

  4. You wouldn't need to lower the seat height. A 5'9" person is perfect for that bike. Also the 250F's, unlike a 125 2 stroke, are very easy to ride even for a complete beginner. With your experience that would be a perfect bike for you.

  5. My youngest is only 5ft 6 and weighs 48 kilos which I think is only about 105 pounds and he races a crf250r at an A grade level.

So even if you are not all that experienced with being 5ft 9 and 170 pounds I think you would be fine on a yzf250.  You would at least easily touch the ground and unlike my son not have to use starting blocks.

Also many people I know who have trouble with the seat height just trim it down with an electric knife. YOu take the seat cover off and cut the piece neatly away and then staple the seat cover back on, but I really don't think you shouldhave any trouble with the height as I am only 5ft 8 and I can touch the ground on the 250cc
