  1. What exactly did he see? Don't leave an appointment with unanswered questions. Call the office and ask him to give you more info.

Did you get referred for more studies with a perinatologists? Is he having you schedule an appointment w/ him sooner than usual to follow up?

Don't leave until you understand what is going on...that is his job.

  2. Oh man, i go in for my second check up tommorow and I am also 5 months along...I hope they dont tell me something like that. This is my first so I will deff freak out and worry if its something I'm doing wrong. I hope he does trully mean that it is common and wont hurt the baby or become anything more. I guess I will see tommorow.

Good Luck & Im sure if he says its normal then it should be fine, dont stress it out...that is not good either. Just do what you know is right and hopefully next time it will be all okay.

  3. I know it's very hard, but slow down. Think of doctors as worst case scenario information providers. Not becasue they enjoy torturing you, it's really to cover their practice in case you try to sue. So he/she is telling you to make you aware of any *possible* issues that may arise, but they aren't necessarily going to.

My sister was told that my niece could have development problems with relation to her internal organs due to something that escapes me now. She doesn't.

Just take it with a grain and know that it's not certain...

  4. You should call your doctor back and ask what exactly was abnormal. That way it would be more clear as to what he/she is talking about.

  5. I think this happens a lot.  It has something to do with the shades of the ultrasound.  Sometimes something may appear very white, and it shouldn't be white at all.  Many times this has nothing to do with the fetus, but the way the ultrasound is detecting the features.  Does that make sense?  Did your OB do the ultrasound or the radiologist?  Remember that an OB is not a radiologist, doesn't have the training, expertise, etc.  Did they refer you to a radiologist to have a study done?  If not, for your peace of mind, I would request one.  Stress isn't good during a pregnancy.

    Good luck!!

  6. Oh my gosh I am so sorry my brothers wife was told that and everything was fine she got so stressed but when he was born he was healthy but had a lot of test done to make sure! I hope everything goes well for you also! Congratulations on your baby

  7. Similar story here. I went for the full anatomical ultrasound a week and a half ago.  The technician told us that everything looked great, but the doctor called a few days later and said that she saw a 'bright spot' on the baby's heart.  She said that she didn't know what the bright spot was, and she said that it could just be an unclear picture because the baby was moving around so much during the scan. (This little girl is *really* active!) The spot could also be an abnormatlity with the heart. My doctor was very supportive and told us to be healthy and positive. She also set up an appointment for me with a perinatologist. We're having a high-resolution scan of the baby's heart in two weeks. The scan - similar to an echocardiogram - will be able to show all four chambers of the heart.  After that, we'll know more.

If you're very worried, you can ask your doctor to refer you to a perinatologist.  If the abnormality were a funny looking hand or foot, I wouldn't worry so much - but with a vital organ, you want to be very careful.

Believe me - I understand how you're feeling. It's very, very scary to hear that something could be wrong with your baby's heart.  But, that's why we're going to see an expert.

I wish you and your baby all the best.

  8. I wasn't told that anything looked abnormal but I was told at my first detailed ultrasound that they couldn't see my babies heart, or all of her spinal cord. They scheduled me for another ultrasound a few weeks later when they were able to see all four chambers of her heart and the rest of her spine. They still told me that there was one picture of her heart that they couldn't get but they wouldn't worry about it.. it was probably just the way she was lying at the time.

If your OB thought something was wrong with your babies heart they would have you see a specialist for more test. I'm sure you and your baby will be just fine.

  9. Don't you just love that?  "There may be something wrong, but DON'T WORRY..."??  How can they expect us not to worry when we are given news like that?

Anyway, did the doctor specify what the abnormality was?  If so, you can always google it.  If not, give the doc a call back and ask.  Then, do your research on it.  That is the only way my mind would ever be eased.
