  1. Frankly shortness of breath happens due to lack of proper blood circulation to the lungs.

But as a CHD patient You must take your medications at all times and must also visit a Nutritionist for the right diet for CHD patients of your age. Also please visit your nearest Cardiac Rehab, for your proper daily exercise routine.

You will find yourself breathing much better, standing or laying !

    Wishing You Good Health !

  2. Orthopnea can be a symptom of heart failure (or an anginal variant, or several other things), and it may simply be that you haven't gotten your treatment optimized yet. Any idea of what your ejection fraction is?

  3. The maximal amount of air you can exhale after your greatest inspiratory effort is called your vital capacity. In normal persons the vital capacity falls about 5% when lying down. In persons with congestive heart failure, it can be decreased by up to 30%.

But I like John deWitt's answer.

  4. It might be your meds. I have noticed with some other family members that most of there meds cause shortness of breath. You should talk to your doctor about the side effects of them and what other causes could be the reason.  : D hope I helped!

  5. John de Witt is right. But I think sleeping on a couch is very useful.
