Yesterday she was frantically running around the garden collecting grass and hay and was making a nest in her hutch. As she has the run of the garden and doesn't really like her hutch, should I keep her in it all the time now? How long until she is likely to give birth?

  1. If she is pregnant, she'll deliver within about 3 days after building that initial nest.  When she's getting really close (within hours), she'll start plucking hair from her belly and lining her nest with it.  Mine usually build their nest from hay on the 28th day and on the 31st day they line it with fur and kindle.  Good luck.

I do have a rabbit who makes nests periodically, even though she isn't exposed to males.  Don't be too disappointed if she's just displaying that behavior.

  2. Has she been with any males recently?

I know it sounds stupid, but rabbits can have false pregnancy and she may be expericing this if she hasn't had any contact with other bunnies over the past few weeks.

  3. Has she been around male rabbits?? Sometimes female rabbits who aren't pregnant will still go through the "nesting" phase.  can you take her to a vet and have her checked out?
