I'll be arriving in Taiwan at Chiang Kai- Shek on the 21st at 9:30pm. I do not really want to stay in the airport overnight so my question is this:

Is there a cheap hotel or hostel near the airport? If so, do you have a link to their website? And then is there a shuttle to the train station in Taipei to take me to Kaohsiung? I am going to University in Kaohsiung.

  1. I don't know the timetable, but there is a free shuttle service for those wanting to go on the High Speed Rail service, which can take you to Kaohsiung in under 1 and a half hours (Basically the shuttle service takes you to Taipei Main Station which is the hub for Taipei metro, Taiwan Rail and High Speed Rail). There should be a few hotels/motels nearby, but if you want you can take a taxi to Taipei city and live in one of the better hotels/motels.

  2. There is no connection for you to catch the THSR in time for the last train for that night.

I,m with PD, take the Kuokuang bus into Taipei Main station.

    Other 3*hotels near the station:

    One Star Taipei: http://www.taipeionestarhotel.com.tw

    Miyi Hotel:   http://www.miyi.com.tw/

    Keymans Hotel: http://www.keymans.com.tw/

  3. I would suggest that you take the shuttle bus to Taipei Main Station (beside the Train Station), and stay at the nearby Y.  Here is the link.

My wife and I have stayed there a few times.  It's not the Waldorf Astoria, but it's inexpensive and clean and quiet.

  4. There are no cheap hotels or hostels nearby the airport and you have to go to either Taipei or Jhungli to find budget hostels or hotels for you to stay for the night. As for your arrival time, better for you to head for Taipei, as there are no coach available to Jhungli after 9:30pm. As for the shuttle, I'm not sure, but in Taipei the metro is very efficient and can get you to Taipei Main Station for a train ride to Kaohsiung in no time. As for the university, there are several universities in Kaohsiung, so you have to state which one in order to give you more details on getting there.
