We moved to USA for a couple of years where my son was born and then went back to England where my daughter was born. My daughter has dual citizenship. After 10 years we moved to USA where we have been living for the past 15 years. I would like my son to have dual citizenship also. Is this possible?

  1. I'm assuming your son has a US citizenship, you can apply for him to have a dual citizenship by default anyway, since you yourself are a citizen of Britain.

If parents of citizens of 2 different countries, then their children can apply for citizenship for either, or dual citizenship for both.

  2. Yes

  3. The United States does not recognize dual citizenship. I would suspect that your son could still get a British passport because you are a citizen of the Nation.

    RR

  4. It's possible.

    I suggest you read this:

    http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/britis...

It's the British Home Office's page on your specific situation.

Contact the British embassy or consulate which has jurisdiction over the area of the US you live in, and they will help with the paperwork.

  5. I went through this having a US father and a UK mother. I have both passports.

Even if you have never gone to an embassy and registered his birth he he can get a passport. That is a given. I went round and round with the laws and finally just applied. I finally just realized that I just simply qualified. As long as you have a UK parent you get a UK passport.

But there is a difference. Since I was born in the UK I got full citizenship all of the way around with no restrictions.

But my brother who was born in the US does. He did get a UK passport having an English mother.... easy. But his can not be passed down to his children. Unless he actually moved there for a time.

Much depends. Much can be done. How old is your son?

  6. A person who has a British mother currently has a right to register as a British citizen if:

    he or she was born between 7 February 1961 and 1 January 1983;

You say 10 years after your daughter was born you moved to the USA and now live there and have done so for the last 15 years. That makes 25 years.

25 years ago would of been August 1983 so depending on your son's date of birth he should be OK.

  7. yes as is father is american
