We have been together for 4 years now, and are looking to marry and reside in the UK there after. I heard that we cannot marry in the UK, so we have to do it in Nigeria. Will it still be recognised in the UK?

  1. Marriage validly contracted in Nigeria is also valid in UK if there is no conflict in laws and requirements.  Thus, get the complete of your documents and file it together with the application for the visa of your spouse so that it will be acted upon by the UK Embassy.

  2. as long as your a citizen in the UK your marriage should be recognized.

  3. Ah ,love and politics....my best advice is to ask that the

Marriage be executed in a British Consulate or Embassy

,since it is British Territory .However some countries will

see the need for a dual nationality for one of you.At any

    rate .......Congratulations

  4. YES, it will be recorginize in uk if you both married nigeria.

  5. Any marriage is recognised by the British authorities as long as it satisfies the laws of the country in which it was solemnised. You can marry in Nigeria and then present an application for Entry Clearance as the spouse of a British national for your husband at the British High Commission in Lagos. The application process is slow and can take 3 months. If refused your husband will have a right of appeal at the Asylum & Immigration Tribunal in UK and you would be his sponsor. You will need to have a job/income and prove that you can adequately maintain him inthe UK. He would also benefit from showing that he can secure employment on arrival in UK. For more help see:
