I am CERTAIN I saw phantoms last night. Can someone help me decide if I really did?

As things like this occur in my life, I do tend to have more sympathy for others who believe in supernatural stuff. Last night when I woke up in the middle of the night, I saw across the room, what looked like a dark shadow. It was also so dark in my room that the shadow was at the very limit of perception. Then it moved. I was startled and thought maybe my som had come into the room. I turned on the light on my night table and nothing was there. I checked all the little light sources in my room like the clock, the router, the window (which is closed and covered to block out as much light as possible). No, it wasn't a shadow made by any of them.

Then I realized I had one of those "visions" that so many people attribute to phantoms or shadow people or who-knows-what. I went back to bed and was just about to fall asleep when I opened my eyes and looked in the same direction. This time there was a clearer dark shadow and it appeared to be only two feet away from me...

  1. You may doubt your own senses,it could be that you were not all the way awake, but to be on the safe side keep a flash light by your bed.  If you see it again, shine the flashlight on it.

A few times seeing it, yes you may not be quite awake yet.

If you see it often,  research it.

  2. Wonder why I don't believe you!! Hmmmm

Edit..Brant...Yes..I've had those things happen to me too...And then there are the PARANORMAL things that happen that are totally different.Quit trying to understand something that you never will until you have a real paranormal experience. When /if it happens..believe me..you'll know the difference. Till then..guess we 'll just try to remember that it hasn't happened to you yet and that you don't mean any harm and that you're trying to save us from our "fantasies" or "hallucinations" or whatever you think they are. We'll just know that when we see one of your questions or answers that it's "joke time".lol

  3. I think most of us have"visions".If everyone would take the time to investigate as you did. There would be a lot fewer believers.

Looking at a few of the other answers it's obvious why some can't figure it out. They can't even figure out the point of your story.

  4. Brant you forgot to include a piece of haunted electrical equipment in your tale- the light that flickers or the radio that turns itself on, that is a sure way to know that you have something supernatural happening..........

  5. I honestly don't believe in ghosts. As humans die their spirit doesn't stay in this world. They go straight to the spiritual realms. And if you really saw something, it's an evil spirit.

  6. LOL Brant....But i have one question for you....what makes you think it was your mind playing a trick and not a real spirit passing through....some people will see alot more and it comes to a stage where you know you are actually looking at a spirit, no mind tricks there.....

  7. brant.......... its was more than likely a waking dream.

I've done the same thing when waking up from dreams.

I saw my lawyer in my room with me giving me guidance to a multiple homicide case (I didn't do it), even though I know he'd never take the time to come wake my up in person.

I've also seen bags of popcorn around me, but no matter how hard I tried to grab them (which I tried numerous times) I could never hold them in my grasp

story? the human mind is capable of making dire mistakes......

like the woman in DC that claimed her older child was possessed by demons and she ended up silencing them with a kitchen knife in the stomach..... then proceeded to silence the other two children.....

months later, they delivered an eviction notice and smelt the dead bodies........... decomposed beyond recognition and still lying in bed.

    *******

yeah. I agree the mind receives stimuli then gives it reason, if it doesn't have a good reason to start with. I hear this philosophy is exactly WHY we have dreams......

I've also seen some british documentary about how the brain has a second "judge" that explains reasons to itself WHY it does things it does. ------ they referred to this section of the brain as the "narrator" ---- people that damaged this section could not come up with reasons why they do what they do, they just do it (but oddly enough, they do it correctly.... just don't know WHY)

the ultimate conclusion was that we are all on auto pilot, the narrator just lies to us and tells us we MEANT to do it for reasons. ------ leading to the lack of FREE WILL

I also hear this narrator concept works well in AI systems but they dub it an "imagination circuit" I believe....

it basically verifies reason and checks other possible solutions

    (researching.)

  8. Brant, thanks for sharing that experience. Sounds like you're not the only one who has had that experience judging by many questions posted here.

I personally haven't had visions like that, but I have opened my eyes as I was falling asleep and saw a strange shadow that spooked me. When I got up to investigate, I was able to figure out what I was looking at. But what you experienced sounds like something different, either a hallucination brought on by fatigue or sleepiness (a hypnogogic hallucination). I think these happen more than we realize. I can understand how spooked one could get if there is already a prior belief in the supernatural. But to answer your question, can I help you decide what you saw? Probably not :)  Sounds like you are already in possession of the facts here and know what the possibilities are.

  9. Sounds like it could have been an experience. How old is your house? Maybe it's some sort of risidual haunting. I've read that if work is being done to the house, it can stir up paranormal activity. I'm still waiting for my first encounter with the other side!

  10. This means that there is someone or something bad coming your way. Look out and be careful.

  11. ahahahahahahah. Nice story, but you're not going to convince me that what I feel and/or see is all a trick of the mind.

  12. It's weird when stuff like that happens. I'm not a believer in the paranormal, but last night was really strange. I felt like there was a presence in the room and for some reason I thought it was my grandad who passed away last year. Just had a gut feeling. I also had a bizzarre feeling that someone had slapped me just before I fell asleep, but everybody was in bed. Then there was that bloomin earthquake at 1 so yes, very weird night for all.

Try not to be scared, it could be your mind playing tricks on you. Probably the same with me

  13. Why are you asking if you've already answered your own question?

*14yrs ago I woke up from sleep and saw 3 hooded figures in black standing at the foot of my bed. There was light in the room which was why I could make them out perfectly. Being 14yrs old it did scare me a bit seeing them, but then they grabbed my feet and pulled me towards them - I could feel my body moving on the bed and the bed covers being pulled....I don't know what happened next because I slipped into unconsciousness then. How grateful was I that I did wake up the next day.

(The figures looked like Mercury's avatar, but minus the red eyes)

  14. I like your story. One of the reasons that I do like your story is that you are trying to  be logical and make sense of it. As time goes on however, I feel you will run out of explainations... as this is probably your spirit guide or someone who is trying to help you.  The fact that you saw it as a shadow, is attributed to the dark. I am sure that when you saw it you had another impression of what was there. You mentioned that you thought it was your son, so to me this reflects t hat the energy from what you saw or thought you saw is benign.  Please keep an open mind and when this happens again, and I have a strong hunch that it will... please ask this being for its name and try to communicate.  Don' t dismiss all with logical explainations. I have had a few experiences which I dismissed with logical explainations only to realize years later the points of which I had missed, and realized that it was real after all. So Good Luck to you and happy hunting.

  15. I totally believe you!

I have had many paranormal experiences!

And i hate it when someone tells me that it was my imagination, i'm crazy etc...

If you saw the shadow twice... then no doubt that it was a phantom. For sure.

    peace
