I plan on checking with my church asap on the details, but I thought I would ask here too...what kind of ceremony can we have if I am Catholic, but my fiancee isn't? Is it basically the same as the traditional Catholic wedding, but minus the sacrament of Communion? Also, can anyone tell me how long the marriage prep classes took to complete? Thanks!!! :-)

  1. in my church(in san diego), its nine months prep and if you do want to get married at a church, one of you guys had to finish confirmation

  2. My parents married in a full catholic mass + marriage ceremony and my Dad never was catholic, only Mom.

The priest did make a statement to the effect that guests who are not catholic are not permitted to take communion.

  3. If one of the wedding couple is not Catholic the Church recommends the sacrament be clebrated outside of Mass.  A priest or deacon can easily do this.

You generally need to be registered in your parish for 6 months prior to marriage prep.  It can work is different ways.  There is the Engaged Encounter weekend, or you may do a series of sessions with a person trained in marriage preparation.
