I am Jealous over my friends grades.?

Hi I am 13 and at my school my good friend has been having mood swings for like 6 months but this year he has been fine. We have been competing in grades since 6th grade and this year it is 8th grade. I have always gotten better grades then him and have been best in class. I am jealous whenever he gets a better grade then me though. I do not like to try harder then i do because i always bust my butt studying and stuff. Also, i know inside he feels happy whenever he does better than me and i feel the same. He doesnt act like he competes anymore in grades, but i know inside he still does. So what can i do so that i am not so jealous whenever he gets a better grade then me even though i usually get better grades then him?

You shouldnt compete with your friends over grades.

Especially if its causing one of you to get jealous.

I have a similar situation with some of my friends, too. What worked for me (btw, I'm thirteen & 8th grade too) is we both just matured into realizing that we each have different strengths and weaknesses and have grown to support each other. For example, he is in band, and made Region Honor Band, all-star, and some other things. Whereas, I'm in Choir, Region Honor Choir member, Best-in-Show performer, and Division 1 superior rating on a solo. We are proud of each other, so what you should make an effort to do is support him, and he will realize you are being the bigger person, and try to make an effort as well. In fact, we are even closer friends now than before.
