  1. Since your daughter was born in the US, she is a citizen of the US by default and is entitled to the benefits of being a US citizen.  Since you are Peruvian, she also has the option of being a citizen of Peru (granting that their government allows dual citizenship).

Once she turns 18, she'll have to decide which country she wants to be a citizen of and relinquish the other (since she cannot be a citizen of both as an adult).

    Good luck!

  2. If you want her to have dual citizenship, you must register her birth with the Peruvian embassy before she is 18.

  3. Dual is tough as for the most part that is not really recognized anymore. Peru is one of those "denied" countries because of the whole drug thing so things can get sticky.

What you do is get all of the documention and such and make her a solid American citizen. A passport is the way to go. Yes there is the whole choose when you turn 18, renouncing citizenship in a non-US country and all of that sort of thing. But in reality it does not really matter.

You get her all she needs and a US passport. Next time you are in Peru (or mail it to an embassy) you claim Peruvian citizenship for your child. She will have both passports and can claim citizenship in both so for all purposes she can live and work in both places.

But....... if later she travels home make sure she enters Peru on a US passport. When the red flag comes up is when one enters another country on that countries passport and then flies into the US using the US one.

You just get her a passport from Peru and tuck it away.

  4. the us does not recognize double nationality, you're either american or not..

  5. you may get her dual nationality if you wish ?

    it is a choice .

she is allowed to get it trough descent by her father or mother .till 3 generations.

  6. go to www.travel.state.gov and see your nations rules on this.

    see family law there

unless you plan to go back to peru i would not worry about it. sometimes having dual citizenship also means paying dual taxes and dual compulsary military services. the state dept websites has all the contact info.
