Look into working at a soup kitchen or homeless shelter.  People who have no homes and are forced to eat out of garbage dumpsters really suffer at this time of year because of the cold and holiday loneliness.  If you call a local church they can put you in touch with food banks, soup kitchens and shelters.

Working for one of these groups not only puts your life into perspective (hey, you are in a house, on a computer reading this answer!) but it makes you feel really good knowing that you've helpsed someone else.  You also get to make friends with the other people working there; it's a win-win!
