Question:

I am Thin Amongst Obese Friends?

I have lost a lot of weight in a year, and now am the thinnnest amongst my friends who are over 250lbs. I weigh 140. What I notice that when I am with them people will talk or face me more than them and exclude them. People will shake hands or start a conversation with me instead of my friends.

I feel weird like my friends are being excluded, however, is it because I am thin that I am treated with more respect? What should I do?

  1. Maybe you could include them with whatever your doing to lose weight.

  2. Simply put a thin person is more approachable an accepted in society. Sorry that's just how humans are we tend to shy away from something that's against the norm.

  3. confidence makes sense to me.  Also, be careful not to eat with them!  Congrats, good job!!!

  4. Your actual question is easy to answer, and has been answered. The real question is: Should you feel weird and/or offended on your friend's behalf? That's up to you. The world rewards attractiveness, along with success and health. The world sidelines (or even punishes) unattractiveness, lack of success and lack of health. So, a fitting quote is: "When it's you against the world, I'll back the world."

  5. Get new thin friends.

  6. it may be because youre more confident then youre friends. people are drawn to confidence.

  7. I would have to agree that confidence plays a role here. Some of my friends are a little hefty and people are more inclined to talk to them then some of my not so hefty friends because they have more confidence. Just my .02
