I am United States citizen how do i get a visa to go overseas?

I am looking into going overseas to go to china to do some volunteer work i have a passport how do i get a visa to go overseas do you i have to go to the china consulate in washington dc if there is one how do i get one?

I am sure that other places have consulates for China - what big city are you near?  Los Angeles?  Chicago?  New York?  Check whatever big city you are near to find out if they have a consulate for China.

you can personally apply at the Chinese  embassy in Dc or you may use  a visa processing center  (extra fees apply) when i  came here in china first time i had  this  company  visarite   don't know iof  stilll in business   send  my valid passport  application for chinese visa  and fee    within 10 day iw as all set

Yes - you must apply at a China Consulate - there is probably more than one in the USA.

Note:  You'll need to go through a recognized organization in order to "do some volunteer work" in China.

As an American citizen you are able to travel to most countries without a Visa.  However, you do need a passport to travel to any country including Canada.

A few countries like China will require a Visa.
