  1. When it comes to mean coaches you just need to remember that they are trying to help you improve. When they yell at you ask them what you could do better, but don't interupt them! You just need to try out and see where your at. If you do get on the team and it's hard then don't quit the only way to get past the hard parts is to keep going and have fun!

    Good Luck :)

  2. As for mean coaches, do your best, they should notice and let up on you, and if they don't, I would tell either your parents or the principal if its a school swim team. that the coach is being a little to hard.

As for staying strong swim everyday. But if you don't live where you can often swim I have 3 words for you.

    RUN EVERY DAY!

Running or jogging everyday is great for people who are on swim teams because it builds muscle and endurance and also keeps you healthy. That the way to go.

As for the timed test, again, do your best. If you make it, great, if you don't train some and try again.

And don't worry about it that will just make it worse..

  3. Well the only way to gain experience is to try and go for it.  Coaches can be tough.  I played basketball in high school for four years and then I rowed in college.  (coaches in college are much harder so get your experience now).  Deep inside though coaches are people too and they are really not all that scary when you get to know them.

One thing to remember about mean coaches is that all the athletes have to deal with them not just you.  Make friends with your team so you can get through it together.

My advice is try out.  If it doesn't work out then you can try something else or practice more so you can make it next time.

  4. Most people I know get confused with the word "mean" and the word "intense".

Those words are very different. Swim coachs tend to be very, very intense, they will push you to the limit every time.

As long as you train hard, and try your best, there is NOTHING you should be ashamed of.

If your coach yells at you, remind yourself that you did your very best, and if the coach cannot see that, she is blind.

If you really feel that she is yelling and screaming at you too much, talk with either her or your mother. Explain that you feel you are trying your best and feel they are coming down too hard on you.

In general, swim teams are very fun, and can be so rewarding.

    Good luck! K
