I am a 16th edition electrician and would like to work in France?

what would be the likelihood of me getting work over there? obviously the langauge is a problem, im trying to learn that just now, but is there anything else i would need, eg another trade test?, an unwillingness for "outsiders", any advice or experiance would be much appreciated

  1. I dont think you have a lot of chance of getting work in France - not working legally for someone else in any case.

    On the other hand, you can definitely set up as Self Employed as an electrician.  And there is always demand for good english speaking ones.

    Contact some electricians in the country and ask them about it.

    (There are some listed on http://normandy;wikidot.com and you could even visit the site to advertise yourself as looking for work as it is a WIKI site!)


  2. A couple of points :

    If you are from outside EU, getting a work visa will be very difficult

    If you are from UK, the electrical system in France is very different

    To become self employed, you will have to demonstrate to the Chamber de Metiers that you either have French qualifications, or prove you have the required experience

    Either way, you need to speak good French
