  1. You shouldn't. the more spin the more off target your shots will go. If you are a 20 hdcp, unless your too old to get your shots to the green, you are missing right and left consistently. Probably more often right.

High spin balls are for players trying to play the big draw or fade. High handicappers should work on keeping it straight. If you hit it straight your scores are bound to drop.

  2. You probably don't.  High spin rate is great when you hit a straight shot to the green and it checks right up next to the hole, but if you are a 20 you probably don't hit that many shots like that.  The high spin is going to make your hooks and slices more extreme so stay with a lower spin ball for awhile until you get more consistent.

  3. First of all, why would you want a high spinning ball?

If you are a good player, you need to know how to spin the ball.  whoever mentioned this to you, if that person knew your handicap was 20, I think there's something wrong with the person.

You need the ball that is soft. softballs can get the ball spinning.

My advice, you wouldn't want the high spinning ball.

just get the ball that is soft.

  4. Strange wording of Question mate!!

I think you mean "Do I need a High Spin Ball"

If this is the the question here is your answer:

If you slice or hook any of your shots then this will be made even worse if you have a high spinning ball (Pro V1 - HX Tour 56 - Etc etc etc)

The reason you slice or hook (Taking the schematics of your golf swing out of it!!) is because you impart side spin on the ball, with a ball that spins alot this will be even more noticiable.

The reason I am telling you this is because as a 20 H-capper I am presuming you DO slice or hook.

So the answer is NO you don't need a high spin ball.

What you need is a ball that will offer you a lot of distance yet still retain some feeling around the green.

    I suggest:

    Srixon AD333

    Calloway Warbird

    Titleist NXT

A Pro once told me that NO-ONE over a 12 Handicapp should play with a high spin ball.

  5. Because that's what the big boys play. That's what sells.

  6. As a 20hcp you don't need a high spin ball.  High spin balls are for low handicappers that know how to work the ball and also want to spin it back on the greens.  I would stick to low spin balls as for these will help you keep your shots straighter.  A high spin ball will only enhance your bad shots and make them go more wayward.  I hope this helps you.
